This book is great for children learning how to count. The book is about animals trying to have a ton of apples on their heads. They try to see how many they can have on their heads. Its great for fun and learning about counting numbers.

A colorful book for very young children. The book does a great job of presenting numbers 1-10 while keeping the story amusing. Children will find this book funny while also learning their numbers. ( )

This book is good for young student that are learning to add and subtract. Teachers can incorporate this story into a math lesson.

In this cute and fun to read book, children who are just learning to read will love to follow along with how any apples are stacked on the characters head. It gets them to count to ten, see words that rhyme, and get the basics of reading down. Here is a great website with literacy activities to go along with this book: http://www.makinglearningfun.com/them... ( )

This book was about a lion, tiger, and dog competing to see who can put more apples on top of their head while jumping, dancing, running etc. A few other animals come along and try to get them to drop their apples. This book is great for pretend reading for those who are just learning to read. ( )

This was not your traditional Dr. Seuss book. I was not very impressed with the way this book was mapped out. It was about different animals keeping apples balanced on their head. They then ran into a problem when a bear chased after them. They showed determination by wanting to keep the apples on their head. Eventually they collided and made a mess, but they included the bear and finally accomplished balancing ten apples on their head. Another good point about this book was that at one point they counted backwards. This would help the teacher in her lesson on counting. On the Dr. Seuss website, http://www.seussville.com/lb/home.htm... there are many options for teachers, parents, and students to explore. There are scholarship options, events, a catalog, and games.

As usual, Dr. Seuss delivers an entertaining and unusual book that encourages reading growth. In this book, one animal begins to pile apples on top of his head and then engages in some friendly competition, as two other animals try to out-do his apple stack. The three meet a testy neighbor who is tired of hearing about the apples, but then finds himself enjoying the apple counting and stacking as well. This book is ideal for pre-readers (kindergarten, even early first grade). ( )

This book is another one of those early reader books. Where it helps learning counting by seeing who can get more apples on their heads. ( )

This book shows students if they want to do something and if they put their mind to it they can do it. They can do anything they allow themselves to do.

I remember this book as it was my brother's favorite when he was in early elementary. It's also a really well done early reader: interesting but an easy read with high frequency words. It was the second "real book" my kindergartener read.

Animals are competeing to see who can balance the most apples on their head. Then the rest of the town wants to knock their apples down.

This book would be great for beginning readers. It is not very difficult to read, but you could have your class count along with you. It counts forwards and backwards to ten so it would be good for kindergarteners and maybe first graders. You could have your class draw and color ten apples and show what they could do with those ten apples. ( )

This book is about three friends who are competing with each other. They have to find ways to not only compete with others, but they have to navigate around the obstacle of others. Many who see that they are competing with and at the end they solve the problem at the end by sharing their skills with all in an accident.
This is a great book for those who are learning how to count. This book is great for 1- 3rd grade This book counts to a certain number for a long period of time and emphasizes a number and an activity for the student to "grasp" a hold of mentally. It uses a lot of simple words and uses great illustrations. ( )

Gosh I love this book!

Three animals compete in the first half of the book to see who can have the most apples on top of their head. During the second half of the book, they escape an angry mob, happily collide with an apple truck, and end up giving the entire town ten apples on their heads as well. (What fun! Ten apples up on top! We are not going to let them drop!)

This is a good book both for early readers, and for young children learning to talk. Very simple, rhyming vocabulary, of the sort with intuitive spellings (so much of English orthography is a mess...!)

Please note that I do not recommend the board book version at all. They cut out the entire second half of the book, as well as good parts of the first half. In addition, the board book is poorly constructed. Just wait and get the real version instead. ( )

My son loved this book when he was a toddler. A cute story about some competitive friends who each want to carry the most apples on top of their heads. Yeah, it's a bit nonsensical, but that's Dr. Suess! :D ( )
