This book, written in first person, tells the true story of an eight-year-old boy's journey from Mexico to Texas with his father in the 1980s. Alfredo's father could no longer support the family in Mexico. They left behind his mother and siblings. His father paid a Coyote to take them across the border. They met a friend in Texas who took care of them. Alfredo went to school, while his father found work. Alfredo wanted to tell his story to share the difficult experiences of immigrants. At the end of the story there is information about what happened to Alfredo in America. There is also information with diagrams and maps about the U.S./Mexican border and immigration. This book is written in Spanish and English. It is illustrated by Claudia Navarro who lives in Mexico City. She designed the images in folk art style with bright colors.
