This novel is over 100 pages long, but each page has only has a few lines or so. That is because the point of the book is to offer advice on everyday issues like home, issues of the heart, mental stability, etc... Although it may seem like an odd book for children, it actually offers very good advice on some things that are valuable lessons for children! Cute litlte blurbs about life :) amusing in its own way as usual, some are laugh out loud funny while others make you think A book of aphorisms that only Lemony Snicket could come up with. One of the best is "Just about everything in this world is easier said than done with the exception of 'systematically assisting Sisyphus's stealthy, cyst-susceptible sister,' which is easier done than said." no reviews | add a review

Lemony Snicket's work is filled with bitter truths, like: 'It is always cruel to laugh at people, of course, although sometimes if they are wearing an ugly hat it is hard to control yourself.' Or: 'It is very easy to say that the important thing is to try your best, but if you are in real trouble the most important thing is not trying your best, but getting to safety.'
For all of life's ups and downs, its celebrations and its sorrows, here is a book to commemorate it all – especially for those not fully soothed by chicken soup. Witty and irreverent, Horseradish is a book with universal appeal, a delightful vehicle to introduce Snicket's uproariously unhappy observations to a crowd not yet familiar with the Baudelaires' misadventures.

Before I bought this I thought it would have been a novel, somehow tieing in with A Series of Unfortunate Events. But it turned out to be 200 pages or so worth of small paragraphs with advice on life. The book still has Lemony Snicket's humour he used in his children's series, and still all of these quotes are incredibly true!
Horseradish only takes a few minutes to flick through, it's no trouble to read, just fun...I wouldn't rate it as it isn't really a novel but as I couldn't fault it I suppose it's worthy of five stars. :D (
