Loading... Artemis Fowl: The Graphic Novel (2007)by Eoin Colfer
I wanted to like this book a lot because I thought most of the illustrations were cool, but I didn't find the story as interesting. It was still good, I finished it in a single setting and didn't feel like I wasted my time. But the characters are not developed very well and seem shallow to me. Maybe the story was just too far fetched for me to take it seriously. But it was still fun. It reminds me of big budget action movie, fun but not a lot of depth. Some students might really like this and might not care about the depth I was looking for. Probably a good first graphic novel for many. ( )A nicely done visual depiction of the world of Artemis Fowl. The story was still easy to follow and fun. The only drawback is the relative lack of suspense; the original seemed to have more tension and excitement! This is my first ever graphic novel purchase.I am now hooked! You can read the book but without the illustrations you won't be able to see the full details of the storytellers mind. I would recommend reading the novel first to get a good idea of the story, if you have its an excellent comic. I will definantly have my kids read this book because I truly all of the illustrations in this book will make readinng fun. Artemis Fowl: The Graphic Novel is packed with adventure, fantasy and a storyline that deals with the conflict of good vs. evil. Artemis Fowl, a twelve year-old prodigy and a mastermind criminal, devises a plan to restore his family’s fortune by kidnapping a fairy for a large ransom of gold. Ingeniously, Artemis confirms the world of fairies and with the help of his trusted beefy bodyguard Butler, uncovers the fairies’ holy book, The Book of the People. This holy book, written in Gnomish, unveils the rules and secrets of fairy life giving Artemis all the information he needs to abduct Captain Holly Short. In a series of events, Artemis and his clan experience a full out war with the fairy world that leads him victorious. Yet this accomplishment is not done without distractions and major hiccups, as Artemis struggles in handling his insane mother and the disappearance of his father. Readers will not be disappointed in this graphic novel! The sequential full-color panels (help readers understand the tone and mood of the story), detailed illustrations (style of art fits the storyline) and overall layout (appropriate text font/size and non-distracting gutters) will keep the interest and attention of readers. A major asset to this graphic novel is the strategically placed FBI wrap sheets/files of the main characters- detailing out background information needed to fully understand the novel. This helps with the flow of the storyline. Overall, the team of writers (Colfer and Donkin) and artists (Rigano and Lamanna) fittingly and creatively bring to life the novel Artemis Fowel. Age Appropriate: 13 years-old and up The graphic novel contains fight scenes- showing blood and the use of weapons. The popular series about 12yr old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl comes to life in book one of this graphic novel series. The fairies and other otherworldly creatures are rather comically imagined, though they seem to take themselves very seriously. A reader encountering Artemis for the first time will surely be hooked! no reviews | add a review Is a retelling of
