Excellent tool if you are not sure what to read next. Or to tell you what to read if you are in a certain type of mood or frame of mind.
My girls really enjoyed this book and they started to listen to a few more of the suggestions I made to them about books. ( )

Annotation: A collection of thematic lists of books recommended for children and teens.

Review:

Pearl's reader’s advisory offering for children and young adults is filled with more than 1,000 titles for kids of all ages, from preschoolers to teens, and organized in three broad sections: "Youngest Readers," "Middle-Grade Readers" and “Teen Readers.” Book recommendations are organized into a series of essays, which, just as in Pearl's Book Lust, center on thematic subjects such as "Dragon Tales and "Before and After Harry (Potter, Of Course).” Readers should enjoy Pearl's style and distinctive voice in her engaging, but brief descriptions of the books. The range of titles recommended is the strongest aspect of the book, for Pearl brings attention both to well known classics as well as previously overlooked offerings. There is an alphabetical index at the back of the books which allows for quick access to the reviews. Book Crush may be more of a hit with parents or caregivers of children then children themselves who may be reticent to use such a resource.

Other Reviews:

Kliatt found fault with the lack of dates given for the titles as well as some of the fact that some of the books suggested are out of print. Anyone familiar with Pearl will realize that this is a resource that will be of great use in libraries, where older out-of-print books are still available, yet the reviewer may be right that this aspect could frustrate some. School Library Journal had the same frustration, as well as noted that there were some glaring omissions from the lists. Looking at the book from a librarian’s perspective, perhaps School Library Journal expects the reader of the book to be more knowledgeable of children’s literature than the average reader. I think most will find the recommendations instructive.

Kliatt 41.5 (Sept 2007): 36(1)
School Library Journal 53.6 (June 2007): 184(1) ( )

In keeping with her other titles, a well-rounded and well-annotated guide to young adult literature. Most fiction, but non-fiction is included. Nancy does an excellent job, as always. ( )

Another great book of book recommendations from one cool librarian. As if I needed more ideas for my to-read list! ( )
