I'll also be interested in your thoughts on Juliet Naked. I've heard it's not very good - a weaker reiteration of High Fidelity - I hope it's better than it sounds for you!

High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Schmerguls, you are no idiot! I must admit I didn't notice the #318 error, but I do usually check.

Maybe High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, though this was pre-ipod and his playlists were in the form of mix tapes. It was filmed as well. I can't remember what the cover looked like (probably more than one version anyway).

... little tedious with all the war bits…I had to do a bit of skimming to keep interested. Worth the effort, though. 3. High Fidelity by Nick Hornby I’ve never seen the movie, but I will now. Fast read, witty, and light. Lots of fun British humor and odd words to ponder. Basically ...

... that maybe when it was translated into english it lost something that the movie was able to put back into it. As for High Fidelity I read the book a few years before the movie came out, and I liked it, but didn't love it. The last half of the book was so damned boring. I thought the movie ...

... a baby. I read the book some time later and enjoyed it, too. I can't really say I like one more than the other, though. High Fidelity - I honestly haven't read the book because I haven't been able to find it used for a decent price, but I love the movie. I agree that it wouldn't be such a ...

... like these can help you clarify your thoughts on the subject. Look at the compulsive list-makers in Nick Hornby's High Fidelity - they do little BUT generate arbitrary lists, simply as a means of generating arguments.

... was just too tempting to resist. Picked up: Black Dogs by Ian McEwan The Cider House Rules by John Irving High Fidelity by Nick Hornby Empire Falls by Richard Russo Magician: Apprentice by Raymond Feist A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson ...for only $ ...

There's a passage early in High Fidelity where Rob describes his typical obsessed customer. I thought it was spooky that I had searched for the very same record in the very same neighborhood. I also share Rob's dawning understanding that women are generally much too good for men, much better ...

Message 25, kperfetto: I wasn't quite sure if I liked High Fidelity when I read it. It actually seemed quite sad to me. Then I got my Other Half to read it, and he was sitting there chuckling away! When I asked him what he was laughing about, he'd read me an extract, and there was something ...

... Siri Hustvedt's What I Loved. Just finished (relatively speaking. I'm finished with it, anyway) Nick Hornby's High Fidelity, the book everyone tells me I should read. Note to self: stop listening to everyone.

... of a children's fiction character I'm like. the fiction character I most wish I was is probably Rob Fleming from High Fidelity.

I have 4 Persephones: The Homemaker by Dorothy Canfield Fisher, The Village by Marghanita Lanski, Fidelity by Susan Glaspell, and Marjory Fleming by Oriel Malet. Of those, I've read The Village and really liked it.

I think the Britain->US transfer in High Fidelity is possibly the most successful ever and I rate both book and film highly. A case of mixed success is the bloody awful adaptation of The Beach. (Besides completely trashing the story by totally inverting aspects such as the main character who ...

... was a good book, but the film was even better - one of the most intelligent children's films I've ever seen agree that High Fidelity was great as a book and a film. Personally I didn't mind so much that was transferred to the US, though it worked really well.

I agree on High Fidelity, I loved it as a book and a movie. I am a big John Cusack fan, and Jack Black was excellent as were others. I thought the move to America worked, but I think I would still like to see a British version.

... like Kubrick adapt it, there's a very good chance his vision is going to end up much more intriguing. And it did. High Fidelity and Fight Club were two others: I had a lot harder time sympathizing with Rob from HF the book than from the movie: Cusack just seems so much more likable. A ...

Ok, High Fidelity - book vs. movie; which wins? Strengths / weaknesses of each?

... I like Greil Marcus's writing quite a lot. I'm also interested in fiction that centers around music: The Commitments, High Fidelity, etc. I'm currently working on Doyle's Oh, Play That Thing, which features Louis Armstrong as a central character. I'm interested in recommendations in ...

For good movies based on good books I always think of The Name of the Rose, The Princess Bride, High Fidelity. A couple of good little-known ones are The Day of the Locust and El callejón de los milagros, a Mexican adaptation of Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz. For good books ...
