Spoilers.
I found the speed at which Nat discovered he had a penchant for a bdsm lifestyle too rapid and I could not quiet the voice in the back of my head which kept questioning the story. The only way I was able to enjoy it was to stop thinking of it as an erotic novel and imagine instead it was a standard piece of pornographic writing where it is quite normal for a character to go from bdsm-outsider to utterly committed to the lifestyle 24/7 for the rest of their life in the space of a day or two.
Although Richmond's decision to have Nat plugged at all times gave a certain freedom to sex scenes (no need to stretch and lube etc in advance) which I found novel, I still couldn't quite shut up the part of my brain that kept questioning the logistics. Would it really be feasible?
Every now and then I would catch sight of the title and it would pull me up short. I would wonder what on earth had happened to Nat's life and hopes for a career, since, outside of the first few pages, he'd changed careers from journalist to sex performer and couldn't care less about bylines.
I have really enjoyed many of Sean Michael's other books, but I think I will avoid Velvet Glove novels in the future as they are not really what I want to pay for. (
