I like Ken Kesey's Sometimes A Great Notion in addition to Cuckoo's Nest. Natsuo Kirino's Out is slso very good, as are her other books. Other K authors I like are Kadare's Broken April, Kertesz's Liquidation and Khoury's Gate of the Sun.

I have to second that opinion. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is an excellent book. I haven't gotten around to the other, so I can't compare, but you should definitely pick it up sometime. The movie is also quite good, but I'd recommend reading first and then watching.

Even though I liked Sometimes a Great Notion more, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is also an excellent book. It's an entirely different sort of book--very, very funny, but bittersweet too. In tone, it's reminescent of Catch 22. I hope you'll read it one day. The movie of Sometimes a Gre ...

I read Sometimes a Great Notion years ago, and ever since felt it was a much better book than his more famous One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I recently bought another copy of it because I want to reread it. It was made into a fairly decent movie with I think Henry Fonda and Paul Newman.

While I've read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and loved the movie as well, I haven't read Sometimes a Great Notion. Now, with these great recommendations, I'm adding it to the tbr pile.

I loved Sometimes a Great Notion too. It usually gets overshadowed by One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. I read it a long time ago, and recently acquired a new copy for a reread.
