very entertaining novel of Anna's life. Her daugh. emily, exhusband gay-Jim, dad Dougle and girlfriend Lucy, hair salon, drinks, secrets, salon Anna's Cabana, Miss Angel and Miss Mavis from her youth, love, family time. I even laughed twice whie reading this book. Dorothy Benton Frank tells a delightful story with likeable characters. ( )

This book was okay. I would have been more inspired and impressed if the main character had done more for herself, rather than having everything fall into her lap. Pretty unrealistic. I found the characters likeable, though, and enjoy reading about The South, and especially Charleston and the islands. That's the reason I read Frank's books. ( )

I really liked this story because she did what I would love to do, get a house by the ocean-own her own business-have good friends and family-romance. The ending seemed to go on forever though.

This book is about a divorced artist (abusive controlling husband got everything) who comes to Pawley's Island and becomes friends with an attorney and art gallery owner (and his adorable mother). She finds herself in an unexpected way that will make you stand up and clap. The details are lush and exquisite, but it is the lively people in the book that makes this a must read. ( )

This is not my favorite book by Ms Frank, but is still a pretty good book for light reading. She does the South Carolina Lowcountry proud with her descriptions. ( )

Isle of Palms did not disappoint. From the opening sentence, Anna's accent and character came through loud and clear, along with those of the many eccentric personalities in the story. Isle of Palms showed that no matter how old you are, you do have the power to change your circumstances if you have the courage to take the first step. There may be a few bumps along the way, but that's the story to tell.

Favorite lines: "Didn't everyone you loved rub off on you a little, leaving a soapy residue of their best self? They did. And through them, you might become somebody with your own residue worth leaving around." ( )
