I'm reading Mansfield Park, Jane Austen book club, in the woods, and America (the book)

... So, these are high-quality subtle horror stories, that are often creepier on the second read than the first. 41. America (the Book) Since I'm a fan of the Daily Show, I couldn't resist when I saw this at the local used book store. Very funny! 42. David Golder, The Ball, Snow ...

... this. Among the works that touchstoned, I have catalogued six books of which I have read two. I notice, though, that America, number 100, didn't touchstone in your list, and I both have it and have read it. I think I have a few books which are lists of books around. They may surface, ...

... Affair - My aunt has been on a big Nemirovsky kick and recommended this book. Checked out from the library. 3. America (the book) - Same book store as Development as Freedom. The Daily Show consistently cracks me up, so I couldn't resist. 4. Waking Nightmares - I'd been ...

#10 - The Daily Show with Jon Stewart Presents America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart - A pretty funny look at how our government works (or doesn't work). I wish my schoolbooks were like this when I was younger. I might have actually paid attention in class. ...

... ages. Development as Freedom - I had been meaning to read this for ages, and since my local library doesn't have a copy. America (The Book) - C'mon, who can pass up Jon Stewart? Shadowland - Been meaning to check out Straub for a while, and it was on my library's $1 cart.

I totally scored at a book sale a few days ago: The Known World, Suite Francaise, America: A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction, and Free Food for Millionaires. I'm reading the last one right now and lovin' it. I'm a sucker for a good coming-of-age story, and it takes place in Manhatt ...

Ended up having to go to Half Price Books today, after driving by it without stopping yesterday! America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction by Jon Stewart Charles Dickens: The British Library Writers' Lives by Elizabeth James The Jane Austen Book Club by Karen Joy Fowl ...

In fiction: all the Dan Brown except Deception Point. In nonfiction: America: the Book, Against All Enemies, The 9/11 Commission Report, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, and Eats, Shoots & Leaves In children's: the two Harry Potter, and The Polar Express and Goodnight Mo ...

... its own reward? On second thought, perhaps I could count iconoclastic literature as "postive," like Jon Stewart's America: The Book, or Lysander Spooner's essay "Against Woman Suffrage" (if only for the misleading title).

I'm listening to America (The Audiobook) right now on my commute, and I just started Maid of Midnight this morning. I don't usually read Medievals, so we'll see how this goes.

villandry: I'll have to watch the Daily Show more closely (when it returns next week) so that I can give you convincing examples of Jon Stewart's F-ness ;-) citygirl: I really did add what, at the time, was a functioning touchstone to the Jon Stewart reference in my last posting... but ...

... needed that laugh, chamekke. Thanks! But did you mean this touchstone: Jon Stewart? Argh! He's coming up red! America (the book). There we go...now they'll be drawn in. ETA: Next time I watch The Daily Show, I'll watch for his touchy-feelies. You know, I kinda think he's an F, ...

... and plays it well. I've definitely laughed out loud at bits. It's entertaining and silly. But it's not as good as America (The Book). Sorry, Stephen. I have recently purchased: Gonzo: The Life Of Hunter S. Thompson (I LOVE Hunter S. Thompson. Love him. Soul mates.) The Color Of ...

I've read The Inheritance of Loss, The Observations, Carry Me Down and Digging To America. Of these Diggiing to America is my favourite. Think I must read Half of a Yellow Sun because of all the good reviews.

... when the two tags aren't combined, it's easy to see that they are used differently. The top "humor" books are currently America, the book and Me talk pretty one day, while the top "humour" books are 1066 and all that and The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy. When combining tags you ...

Yes, I really remember Book! I really liked it and was very disappointed when B&N stopped publishing it. Now they seem to only have their e-newsletters for mystery, science fiction, and romance - not nearly as good or interesting since they are really just blatant appeals to purchase.

... em. I also read Utne, Pages, Bookends, and People Weekly on a fairly regular basis. Does anyone remember the magazine Book that Barnes & Noble used to publish? I found some old back issues from 2003 at my library's bookstore, but the magazine didn't last very long. Very sad.

Stephen Colbert. I know it's tv, but it's the best satire around. If you have to read, you could always try America, The Book. For the written word, Neal Pollack is hilarious.

Confederacy of Dunces made me laugh aloud in public many times. America, The Book: Teacher's Edition. Mark Twain's anti-imperialist works. Bob Black's work. Man in the Black Coat (anthology of absurdist lit from Russia).

... of morality - if you have no choice between right and wrong you have no opportunity to be moral. In De Tocqueville's "Democracy in America " he talked about one of the distinguishing traits of Americans in the early 1800's (when people were largely libertarian in ideology) that religion ...

... Stephen Sherrill on my wishlist. I'm glad to hear positive things about it so far. Of course, I've got to give it up to America (the book): a citizen's guide to democracy inaction by The Daily Show writers (incl. Jon Stewart); it helps to keep me somewhat sane in these troubled times.

coffeezombie in Humor : Humor Message Board (Jul 27, 2006, 7:16pm)

... his book Below the Beltway is one of the better pieces of American political humor of the past decade or so (right behind America: The Book, another very popular work that hasn't been mentioned here). So, now that I've had half a day to mule over it, here are a few humor books I've enjoyed ...
