The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje

Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje

... finishing Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje. So far, it is very good - just as good as The English Patient, better than Divisadero, but not quite as good as In the Skin of a Lion. Can you tell that I love Ondaatje? LOL

... Pierre Benoit placed L' Atlantide. I'm immediately off to Sri Lanka with a forensic anthropologist, Anil's Ghost by Michael Ondaatje.

I enjoyed Divisadero when I read it last summer, though not as much as The English Patient. I have In the Skin of a Lion and Anil's Ghost on my TBR for next month - can't wait! We will have to compare notes :)

... the whole concoction a bit romantic. When I actually pick up one of his books, in this case his most recent novel, Divisadero none of those preconceptions is absolutely belied, but I am drawn in. Divisadero is certainly romantic, but what's wrong with that? The interest of the stories On ...

#31, mirrordrum, I'm a big fan of Divisadero too, probably my favorite Ondaatje novel.

Best of the year tie: divisadero--reading this book was like being in an altered state. ondaatje's descriptions of place and development of character and situation are superlative. i was so continually bewitched that i had to keep stopping to get back to the real world and to allow me time to ...

It's 3am and I just finished Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje, which was lovely. I enjoyed the French half much more than initial story. I've just started The Inheritance of Loss :)

... Ondaatje. The English Patient is probably his best known work, and it is an amazing novel, IMHO. I have also read Divisadero by him, and have the rest of his works on my TBR. Apparently In the Skin of a Lion is phenomenal. The Handmaid's Tale is good, and Atwood is one of Canada's ...

Just finished Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje last night. Was alright. I always think I'm going to like Ondaatje's work more than I do. Not sure what I'm going to read next... maybe The Salt Roads.

Porch_reader - please, please, please, do not judge Ondaatje by Divisadero. The English Patient is exquisite.

Torontoc - I had the same reaction to Divisadero. I felt like I got a few snapshots of Coop, Claire, and Anna, but no deep insights into them. This was the first (and only) of Ondaatje's books that I've read, so maybe I'll go back and give him another try.

8. Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje. I was not a happy reader with this book. I did like The English Patient and Anil's Ghost but I found this book to be a big disappointment. The author relates the stories of three people, Coop , Claire and Anna but then never really finishes them and goes ...

I just finished The Girls by Lori Lansens and am now starting Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje.

The Two of Us, The Various Flavours of Coffee, Divisadero. I'm a bad, bad girl.

I'll nudge Michael Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion. It's been a while since I read this book, but I did love it. In fact, I love Michael Ondaatje generally. If you haven't read his Coming Through Slaughter and The Collected Works of Billy the Kid, you might consider giving them a go ...

I think my next book is going to be Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje - I haven't read him before but I'm looking forward to it.

... I remember about it now is the fact that I liked it). As for Running in the Family, maybe one day - but I recently read Divisadero and was so disappointed that I think I'll be steering clear of Ondaatje for a while, until I get over it!

Bookmooched: Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje. I haven't read anything by him since The English Patient quite a few years ago. From Amazon, used: The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Murakami. I'm slowly building a collection of this incredible author's work.

... on holiday? And did you enjoy your Polish course?! I enjoyed Nervous Conditions and am glad you recommended it. As for Divisadero, I'll certainly give it a skip. There are way too many brilliant books waiting to be relished!

... either! It was well before LT, so before I started recording my thoughts on what I read). Just recently I read his latest, Divisadero, which I didn't like - I found the poetic descriptions over-done, like wading through treacle.

55. Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje Disappointing. The book begins in 1970s California, with the childhood of Anna, her adopted sister Claire, and Coop, a neighbour's son taken in by Anna's widower father when his parents died. The three are propelled into adulthood by an event which ...

Finished Divisadero and ended up really liking some things about it. Have posted a review on my book blog. Will keep the book around for another read some day. Just finished Divisadero myself. Eagerly awaiting The River Why from my Amazon book order. Hope it comes in time for the weekend.

#150 hemlokgang Regarding Divisadero. Having listened to it, do you think it would be worthwhile to read it? Some books seem to work better one way or the other. I'm currently reading Agatha Christie An Autobiography and the Francis B. Grummere translation of Beowulf. Will probably dip ...

I continue in Bangkok with The Size of the World by Joan Silber. I finished Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje. I listened to it on audiobook, and it was almost a dreamlike experience because of his use of language. The entire book was more of an epic poem. I have to admit that the plot ...

I'm currently reading Michael Ondaatje's Divisadero. I believe this is the third novel that I've read by him. I chose it because at the end of May he'll be coming to St. Paul for MPR's Talking Volumes and I may go see him. Figured I may as well work this into my 888 Challenge. The English Pat ...

Mir, every time I've said good things about Divisadero, I almost feel compelled to put a large "YMMV" at the end, because I've already known several people who've hated it completely and can understand their reaction to some degree, definitely not a book for everyone.

I think I need to re-read Divisadero because I wasn't in love with it as others are. I'm still reading Oh Pure and Radiant Heart. Fermi, Oppenheimer, and Szilard appear alive in 2004 just minutes after the first atomic bomb is tested. They have no idea how they arrived there, but it isn't ...

31, 33> I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying/enjoyed Divisadero. I've been on a streak of picking up books I don't like, and this one is in my stacks. It may be time to pull it out.

32: Divisadero was among my favorite novels last year.

... I am curious about the outcome for some of the characters from the first book, so I will finish it. I am listening to Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje and am regretting that I am not reading it. The language is absolutely beautiful. This is a writer who is able to appeal to multiple ...

kathrynnd in Combiners! : Combination errors (Apr 19, 2008, 12:44pm)

I'm not getting the Dolphin error message every time, though I did just now combining several copies of Divisadero. The thing is that even though the combinations are successful you are left having to back your way out of the screen with the error message.

Dorn, his girlfriend Ruth, Mancini, Cooper. Divisadero by Michael Ondaatje

I read Family Matters. Don't know if I'd say "boring" but it sure was depressing. I've just started Divisadero which I got for Christmas.

I really liked Divisadero. It prompted me to seek out more Ondaatje.

vpfluke in Book talk : Divisadero - Booker (Nov 4, 2007, 6:58pm)

Michael Ondaatje's Divisadero is on my TBR list, but I probably won't get to it until the end of 2008, at the rate I'm going, unless there is a compelling reason to read it earlier.

... but won't get to it for a while. I'm still working on Brian Mulroney's 1054-page memoirs. I've put Effigy and Divisadero on my "wish list" for Christmas -- so let me know if I should take Effigy off! I, too, get a bright red touchstone for Effigy, and for Why Mexicans Don't Drink ...
