Loading... Sabre-Toothby Peter O'Donnell
None. Two fine adventures, "The Mind of Mrs. Drake" and "Uncle Happy". One of O'Donnell's talents is the unique and intriguing villain, and he does just fine here. He is also strong with introducing supporting characters who are as well-fleshed out as a major character. Jim Holdaway's art shines here, just too small for these old eyes. ( )The second and one of the best of Peter O'Donnell's "Modesty Blaise" series. This has a well-formulated story of an attempted invasion of Kuwait which actually predates and predicts Iraq's similar takeover. Includes many compelling scenes, including Modesty's fight with the Twins, Willie's reaction to her punishment in the seraglio, and her capacity for finding the one play in a god-forsaken caper to allow them any chance of coming out alive, saving Kuwait and Lucille, their young charge held hostage. A grim hard story with an entirely satisfactory resolution. Reading Modesty Blaise can be a dreamy experience, then you end up immersed in what you could call close combat porn, almost, with am amazing descriptive level of detail. O'Donnell is the master of this, easily, I think. Modesty and Willie are looking for an angel to help destabilise a small army looking to take over Kuwait, when things get nasty and personal. This Kuwait Liberation Army wants them as section commanders, and to this end, kidnaps their ward as leverage. They have no option but to go along, and things get nasty. http://superprose.blogspot.com/2006/07/modesty-blaise-02-sabre-tooth.html no reviews | add a review
