( ) Persuading Miss Doover is a book about two boys persuading their teacher with letters so that they may sit together in class. The book is written in two formats; it is written in dialogue bubbles and in letters. In the beginning of the book, we see the two friends act up and their teacher Miss Doover separates them in class. The class is given a assignment to write persuasive essays, and the boys take turns writing to Miss Doover about sitting together. At the end of the book, the boys are finally able to convince their teacher. The boys learned how to write good persuasive essays at this point and also agree to behave in class, a win-win for Miss Doover. This book contains very expressive illustations and language. It also shows students how to write a persuasive letter. This would be especially appropriate for beginner writers to read. Not only can readers learn how to write a persuasive letter, but they can also learn how to write entirely in dialogue, making a graphic novel type story. I can definitely see this book coming in handy when teaching both persuasive writing and dialogue. Jack and Samir are great friends and they love to sit together in class. They also love to laugh and play jokes which prompts their teacher Miss Doover to separate them. Can they persuade her to let them sit together again? This book is a fun read for children in Kindergarten to second grade. It could be used as a read aloud, however the text is written in a graphic novel like format making it a better one on one read. It would be a good read aloud to begin a unit on persuasive writing. no reviews | add a review
