I love your review of Bird by Bird - I'm "not a writer" in a similar vein to you, and feel inspired to look out for this now. Thank you.

Porch, I am really glad you enjoyed Bird by Bird. She is inspiring, and I hope you do write more, just for you. I have started doing that and it is a lot of fun.

... last few reads of yours without having to add anything to the BlackHole (I have already read both The Wednesday Wars and Bird by Bird), but no - you had to read When Santa Fell to Earth and now I have to add it!

I agree wholeheartedly with your review of Bird by Bird - great job!

Book #102 - Bird by Bird - Anne Lamott - Finished December 2, 2009 It was Blackdogbooks' excellent review of Bird by Bird that put this book solidly on my TBR list. Anne Lamott's thin book on writing was a joy to read. Reading this book is like having a long cup of coffee with a wise ...

I hit a block. But I finally got through #55 55. Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. This book, while helpful in several instances, is completely overrated. I'll be honest. I was suppose to read this in college, but I never made it past the first 75 pages. I think I see why now. Lamott says some ...

Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott

I'm fond of bird by bird as well. It is one of the few books that I own.

I've read two more books in the meantime; Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott and Better: A Surgeon's Notes on Performance by Atul Gawande. I dislike instructional books on writing, but also inspirational books that advocate dream journals, with the predictable result that there are few ...

Bird by Bird was an excellent finish to the 999 Challenge. There are two kinds of books about writing; the instructional and the inspirational. The former features exercises and assignments and I imagine that it is popular with college instructors. The other varies widely in tone, some ...

I'm beginning Bird by Bird, which is the last book on my challenge.

Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott - Read in about 1996. Would love to just use Linnet by Sally Watson, but realize that's not fair.

Ha! Ha! I'll have to check out more of her books, I guess. I really enjoyed Bird by Bird, but then read a memoir-type book about how she kicked drinking and found religion and was hugely disappointed. I know way too many people who can only give up the one addiction by moving over to the other ...

Missed your new thread also but now I'm caught up. I hope you enjoy Bird by Bird as much as I did!

Oh, Bird by Bird and Ex Libris at the same time? Sounds heavenly...

# 61 Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott This week we have had to put our much loved dog to sleep - the aging and sick dog who came to us a lively puppy when my boys were little. I have often said if each of us had to rank family favorites, Molly would appear #1 on every list and the rest of us in ...

Ditto what everyone else has said about your review of Bird by Bird, Mac. Another great review of a very good book.

Your review was amazing and I agree with your opinion of Bird By Bird. I also have a 'secret' ambition to be a writer - and yet I don't know if I will ever share what I've written with the public either. Except for reviews of course...;) It's my favorite Anne Lamott book, hands down.

I agree with Donna in #6 - Bird by Bird is a treat to read. I hope you enjoy it, Mac.

As I recall, Bird by Bird was a real treat to read -- even for a nonwriter like me.

I still owe a review on a quickie I squeezed in about writing. And, I am onto another book about writing......Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. Looking forward to hearing from girlunderglass about Tender is the Night. I agree with her that the book is not flatly enjoyable but I was able to find ...

I love Carolyn See's Making a Literary Life! In terms of humor, I'd say Bird by Bird is very similar. I also enjoyed her conversational style of writing. It's very non-threatening and she offers some very practical advice. Have you read John Dufresne's The Lie That Tells a Truth? It's ...

I really need to get on reading Bird by Bird... it's been recommended so many times, and it's such a staple on "lists of books to read if you're a writer", that I'm not really sure how I've got away with not reading it for this long! I finished Bird by Bird (808/.02 20) by Anne Lamott last night. If you're an aspiring writer and want to read something about the process of writing, this is a great entry level book. It tells, with endearing humor, some principles that will set the writer onto the right track. Here's my ...

#29 - Bird by Bird has been in my tbr pile for a long time. Based on your comments, I'll have to pick it up sooner rather than later. The Last Bridge hooked me from the first sentence. I could hardly put it down last night!

I'm currently in the middle of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott which I'm finding hugely entertaining (so funny!) and is giving me the urge to write.

Finishing up Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott. It makes me want to try my hand at writing. She's very funny. It's a very cool book to read if you have any desire to write fiction but are a bit too uptight to give it a try! :)

I think I must be the only individual who didn't care for Bird by Bird. Maybe I'll try another one of Lamott's books and give her a second chance.

I've read Anne Lamott's books. I haven't read Bird by Bird. As an aside, a friend sent an email to me written by Lamott regarding Palin... While I am smack in the middle regarding my political views, I found Lamott's nastiness very upsetting. She had wicked, evil comments about Palin's ...
