Wow! More than 5 stars is deserved here! There is so much happening in this book. There's love, the pursuit of justice, revenge, healing, faith, and the true meaning of family. All of the characters are fabulous! For some reason, Haakon is my favorite! He's a complex man but he grows so much as the story goes on. A definite must read! ( )

Love this book and the one before it, Sons of Blackbird Mountain. I hope the author writes more like this. An engrossing story with great depth to it. i did not want either book to end. i like that in the notes at the end she says that the story didn't turn out the way she planned. ( )

What I think you should know:
Daughters of Northern Shores is the Blackbird Mountain Book #2, however it can be read as a stand alone novel. It is set in 1985 on Blackbird Mountain in Virginia, and in Norway. It is a beautiful story of Love, Loyalty, and Forgiveness.

What you might want to know:
Prior to this book Aven was attacked by Haakon. She is still haunted by the memories of the attack. The story does contain characters who have horrible prejudices.

What I enjoyed about this book:
As a daughter of Appalachia, this story was beautiful and heartbreaking, I could picture the surroundings and imagine some of the characters as my ancestors. It had everything needed to make it wonderful love, feuds, forgiveness and restoration. I loved Thor and his solid, gentle strength, the way Joanne, Bischof, the author included Thor’s sign language and communication was beautifully done and enhanced the story. Haakon was a harder character for me to grow to understand. The supporting characters were quick to catch my heart. I enjoyed this book and hope their story continues.

Who will enjoy this book ( just to name a few):
Fans of Historical Fiction
Fans of Christian Fiction
Fans of Romance

I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

"Daughters of Northern Shores" is the second book of the Sons of Blackbird Mountain series. It is a Christian historical romance centering on three estranged Norwegian brothers living in Virginia in the 19th century. We are taken back into the Norgarrd family. Haakon has been traveling for four years trying to find himself. He decides to return home and make amends for all the hurt he caused his family. Aven and Thor have begun their life together. Thor is dealing with a mysterious illness. Blackbird Mountain is threatened when the Sorrel men return from their exile.

Joanne Bischof's did a fantastic job of creating some relatable characters. It was really easy to follow the story and fall in love with the characters. I loved how she makes her men flawed all while showing how they want to protect their loved ones. The main themes of the series so far are friendship, family, forgiveness, and love. She did a wonderful job at creating heart-breaking scenes and adventure. Her words are very poetic in nature. I recommend reading this series. ( )
