The most dangerous race in the galaxy is the race against time. And the second most dangerous race? The Galactic Great Council believes it's the Humans. However, as the captain and officers of the Earth ship Marco Polo are about to find out, Humanity has plenty of competition for that title. While visiting Kula'as, Captain Takamura and his crew are recruited by aliens for a covert mission. The Thryggians may be close to breaking out of their pocket universe using a psi-powered heavy ship left over from an ancient war. If they succeed in activating the ship, they'll be unstoppable. Can a bickering bunch of Humans and aliens work together to find and steal the vessel before it is too late?… (more)

I believe that reading previous works in the series would make this an easier read. ( )

I received this book for an honest review. The first few pages started a bit slow but after that the story took off. The characters are diverse and came to life. The story line is diverse. The main characters appear to be Gael Dedrick, 2nd in command aboard the space ship Marco Polo and Lania, a 15 year old who is the result of genetic experiments. I didn't realize it till now but this is the 4th book of a series. The story is told very well and stands alone. But knowing this and after reading this book I now need to go back and read the first three to see what came before. A very good read. ( )

The fourth book of the series that I've not read at all. It does stand alone well, with only a few moments, "of where did that come from," encountered. Moves along well, and provides foreshadowing for the next in the series. Very enjoyable, going to have to go back to see if the first three are as good. ( )

If you missed reading the first three books in this series, you don’t need them to enjoy reading “The Genome Rally”. It is a standalone book, though there are some references to occurrences in the previous books.

The primary focus of this story is about a starship’s second in command. He happens to be the guardian of a 15-year-old girl who appears outwardly human but she is endowed with alien psychic abilities as a result of an illegal genetic experiment. At 15, her psychic energies are strong but unfocused, being driven by a teenager’s raging hormones. This girl is able to concentrate her psychic energies with the assistance of other psychic alien beings, to read emotions and place physical barriers around a spaceship. The primary concern of her guardian is keeping her out of the hands of aliens and humans who want either to kill her as a threat or to use her as a weapon.

The book ends with several chapters devoted to characters on a human space station waypoint. It is apparent that the space station director’s adventures will be the focus of a human resistance movement story in the next book in this series. ( )
