A collection of seven fine "Rumpole of the Bailey" stories, a few of which appear in other collections. The final title story, "Rumpole On Trial", is particularly droll, in which Rumpole finally crosses a line in his courtroom objections to the jury-swaying remarks of Judge "Ollie" Oliphant, and is subjected to disbarment inquiries. I love the Rumpole stories. "The wonderful part about the decline of Western civiliation is that it provides so many opportunities for humour."

A collection of 7 Rumpole short stories I bought for my mother in London in a bookstore off Chancery Lane in 1992 because TMortimner was there signing it. I told him how much she enjoyed the stories on TV. ( )
