This book is really good and it is the first book of the series called daughters of the moon. ( )

I really enjoyed the myths here, particularly the revelation about the secret ability of each of the girls and why they have them. I enjoyed the general atmosphere of the supernatural. There are some descriptions, that are either really visual, or really focused on a particular sound or scent; a nice bit of detail. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the invisibility gift, and how that felt. Light, quick, entertaining read. The school story and love story elements were a lot less interesting to me than the fantasy and supernatural elements. Probably reads better to the intended age group than myself. I wouldn't mind reading more, but seeing from another review there are 13 other books, I'm not rushing to feel completist here either! ( )

Nothing spectacular here, but light and quick enough that I'd be willing to pick up the second if I had some spare time. ( )

This is the first book in a 13 book series about four girls with supernatural talents who find out they are actually goddesses charged with destroying evil. In "Goddess of the Night", Vanessa Cleveland can't shake the feeling that she is being followed, and she thinks this is because someone has found out her most closely kept secret - she can become invisible. You can definitely see Ewing's background in screenwriting in this book as she is very descriptive. She spends a lot of time talking about the girl's clothing and their unique styles, etc. And she does a great job of it. I think these books are perfect for the audience they are targeted to, pre-teen and younger teen girls who are interested in fashion. The story itself isn't anything terribly original but there are a few plots that I think show promise, especially the one involving Vanessa and Stanton. I may just keep reading to see what happens there.... ( )

A very fantastical story, that teen girls will love. (And older “girls” as well) It combines being special and cool with hints of Ancient Greece. Definitely, an original story. A fun beginning to a series. ( )

Hands down the greatest book I've ever read!

About four girls who find out their destiny. They find out that they are goddesses.

The first book in this magical teen series follows Vanessa who can turn invisible and her friend Catty who can travel up to 24 hours forwards or backwards in time. Vanessa has had the distinct feeling lately that the shadows are following her so Catty turns time back to investigate. They are able to find that she was being followed but cannot tell who it is. Catty begins to practise her time travelling, leapfrogging in time so she can travel back a number of days. Something goes wrong and she never reappears leaving Vanessa worried she has been trapped in the "time tunnel" or it is something to do with the mysterious shadows.

New girls Serena and Jimena have their own secrets and try to help Vanessa steer clear of danger and find Catty. They introduce her to Maggie who seems able to teach her more about her gift and where it came from. It all seems linked to the silver moon pendents her and Catty have had since birth. Maggie also tells her about Atrox, the original evil force who convinced Lucifer to fall. It has shadow human followers that consume hope having had theirs removed, but if you do one a genuine act of kindness it cannot harm you. On top of all this Vanessa has just begun dating local hunk Michael and finds that everytime she kisses him her body rebels and starts to turn invisible!

It sounded so like Charmed I put off getting this series at first, but I am glad I gave it a chance as it is quite different. The power of invisibility isn't quite what I expected, it's more her molecules come apart and she disappears and moves like dust motes through the air which I found quite beautiful. I liked the four female leads and am interested to find out more about Stanton and Michael, I feel Vanessa will be torn between the two in later books. It was definitely a good start to the series and I hope to read the next one soon. ( )

High school sophomore Vanessa and her best friend, Catty, have magical powers. But while Catty sees her ability to time travel as a gift, Vanessa hates her own ability to turn invisible: she "tried to control her molecules, but in times of intense emotion, her molecules had more power than her ability to restrain them and the light from a full moon seemed to fuel their charge." Vanessa wants to date the handsome, long-haired Michael and be like everyone else, but whenever he kisses her, her feet and hands start disappearing. Then Catty turns up missing, and Vanessa's new friend Serena (a mind reader) reveals that they are goddesses, Daughters of the Moon, who must battle the evil Atrox and its dissolute band of "Followers" (from whose souls Atrox has sucked all hope) who haunt the Los Angeles club scene.

Vanessa has always had the power to become invisible. She was always reluctant to use this "gift" until she discovers that she, along with her time travelling best friend, Catty, are goddesses of the moon. Together, they must fight to overcome the evil, Atrox.

In this book, Vanessa and her best friend Catty find out they have powers. Then Catty is kidnapped by the Atrox and Vanessa meets Sarina and Jimena. They find Catty and they use there powers to do so.

I read 200 pages of this book

I recommend this book to people who like fantasy books.

A novel that surely will pull you into the series. Each book is from the point of view of a different Daughter of the Moon. The first book is of Venessa Cleveland and the turning point of her life when she finds out she can turn invisible. This series explores each lives of the Daughters, the power to take control, and defend what's most important. ( )

I own this entire series (birthday gift). It was okay at best it wasn't very original and it had a very predictable plot. I found as I read the series more I got less and less intrested in the girls problems, usually involving a boy and him being the enemy only she doesn't know until it's to late and she's gotten to close to him. There I've saved you sometime and given the plot for almost every book in this series. ( )

Vanessa Cleveland has the odd power to turn invisible, though it’s not completely under her control. When her time-travelling best friend gets lost in time, Vanessa must face her gift and claim her rightful place among the goddesses to save her friend.

A light, fun, go-girls book that didn’t really have any original ideas, but wasn’t horrible either. The writing is decent, and I didn’t have to cringe, but not particularly memorable either. ( )
