In Sail Away, Lee Rowan gives readers three stories featuring characters from her historical fiction novel, Ransom. Ransom told the story of 3 British Naval officers kidnapped by pirates. While trying to survive their ordeal and find a way to escape, young officers Will and Davy discover feelings for each other. But, Captain Smith was more than an extra in the story; he managed to steal many of the scenes he appeared in! In the first story, Captain Paul Smith falls in love with the lively Cynthia. Only problem is, she has been promised to another! Can he win his lady love and get back to command his ship before it must sail? In the second tale, Christopher St. John becomes enraptured by the beautiful Zoe while on leave in France. But, the French Revolution could destroy their chance at happiness. Can they escape the doomed city? The last story (and the weakest) features our heroes from Ransom, Will and Davy. They become stranded on a deserted island, and Davy finds it difficult to hide his feelings from Will. But, does he need to? I loved these characaters. Unfortunately, this story was too short for me. Since it took place before Ransom, I had trouble getting into it. But, a full length sequel, Winds of Change, is coming soon and will more than make up for it. This was a great collection, and I highly recommend it. no reviews | add a review

The first story about Captain Smith, prior to his captainship, and the lady he fell for. I felt this story was sweet, but a little unsatisfying as it did end rather abruptly.
The second story is about Kit St. John who is David Archer's cousin. Sent to France by his mother who was determined to fill her cellar with as much French liquor as she could prior to the impending war Kit is surprised to find the love of his life at an impromptu party. Unfortunately she disappears and his efforts to find her very nearly cost his life. I really enjoyed this story quite a bit. Kit was an easy person to like and the reactions to his similarity to David Archer when he is taken aboard the Calypso were cute. Zoe is a strong female character who does wonders at playing the part of the hero for her man.
The last story of a storm which strands William and Davy on a deserted island rather threw me for a loop at first, but ultimately I really did enjoy it. As both "Ransom" and "Winds of Change" will rank as a couple of my favorites in 2007 I am certainly happy for any sort of story with these characters. Although a very short, quick read ultimately "Sail Away" was pretty satisfying. (
