I think I appreciated this book a little less because I read God Got a Dog first. The illustrations in the second smaller collection made that book so lovely. But this was still a beautiful book that deserves a read. ( )

Thought I might as well go ahead and read the rest of Rylant's God poems (the ones not included in God Got a Dog).

Still good, but I've got to be honest: Marla Frazee's illustrations make a huge difference. Without them, the poems seem less about regular people and more about...well, just God. ( )

It's a cute little book. Funny and silly.
I love poem books!

You need to appreciate the simple things. ( )

Ok, now we know what Rylant thinks about God. I wonder though that some Christians don't raise a ruckus about this. My son and I are atheists and we just loved the charm. ( )

Summary: This is a chapter book of poems about God experiencing the world he created, going to beauty school to learn how to do a perm and instead loving doing nails, because he was really proud of making hands, calling up Mother Teresa because he was lonely and wanted her to bring him a comic book, going to visit the elephants, trying to figure out how He had made Cain devoid of love if love was His bones, His veins, going to Boston and finding a holy place, smoking a cigar, and dying, just to do it. Beautiful book. Beautiful. ( )
