While I have to admit to being a huge Maakies fan, I also have to acknowledge that The House at Maakies Corner is the weakest of the three Maakies collected volumes that I have read so far. Uncle Gabby and Drinky Crow are as resilient as ever, but more than a few of these gags simply fall flat on their faces, and in a handful of these strips, one gets the impression that Tony Millionaire wasn't even putting much effort into his work. This is out of the ordinary for sure, and it's a fairly safe bet that some of the low points reflected in The House at Maakies Corner are an anomaly in the otherwise brilliant (and ongoing) Maakies narrative.
