Work detailsThe Bourne Legacy by Eric Van Lustbader (2005)
None. An adventure from start to finish, fast , furious, twist and turns. So many countries, so many people, no one can be trusted. Viscious and violent. (Book 4 in series but written by another author. Different feel but very engrossing! beware... creeped out by the dental chair scene.) JASON BOURNE Whilst not quite on a par with Robert Ludlum's original Bourne stories this is definitely good fun and worth a read. Bourne is being pursued on two fronts. On the one-hand by the CIA and the other by a mysterious assassin known only as Khan. Can he save the world and reveal the identity of the mystery man before being arrested or killed himself? Of course he can!! Whilst lacking orginality and also being about 100 pages to long I would certainly recommend it as an easy read to fans of the genre. The Bourne Legacy- Out With The Old, In with The Awesome Rating: This book was a hell of a lot of fun Do you remember all those Ludlum novels that were fantastic. The ones that kept you on the edge of your seat and were written intelligently that you weren’t exactly having a brain drain while reading He wrote the Bourne trilogy (that were adapted into movies) and sadly died in 2001. Then some one, this Eric Van Lustador had the gull to buy the rights to Ludlum’s masterpieces and started writing sequels I was sure I was going to disgrace his but not quite. The Bourne Legacy is written completely different than the other novels. Unlike Ludlum, this guy had no true experience with the CIA to create anything intelligent in government workings. It’s told completely focusing on Jason who is no a college teacher. A assassin tries to kill him. He runs and tried to get help from Conklin (his friend from the trilogy) He soon fins him dead. The police arrived. He’s framed for the murder and he’s on the run and the action doesn’t stop. This is not the Jason Bourne from the previous novels. He supposedly the same character. But Jason was getting old and stuff in the third novel as in this one Bourne is portrayed as though he’s in his early thirties. With no problems what so ever. He also doesn’t have any inner split emotional battles between what Bourne would or what Webb would do. He isn’t as crazy. His friends pretty much die in the second chapter cutting that rope where the author can do as he wants. Also the first Bourne novels were written back in the late sixties, early seventies. In this one it takes place after 2000.. They have the internet, cell phones, and myspace. Very much like how the new bond Daniel Craig reinvented the Bond series. This author did the same with Jason. The reinvention is a bit unrealistic, but so much happens that you really don’t care. It’s just a fun book. Jason is escaping hotels that are being raided, escaping the police in high speed chases, fighting and shoots outs and he has a long fight with a guy on the top of historic French church. How cool is that. So is it like the other books? No. It doesn’t insult the original. It barrows elements from the source material. It reinvents it This is the more modern comic book like Jason Bourne, and it’s hell of a lot of fun. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a action book. (retrieved from Amazon Thu, 03 Jan 2013 20:03:29 -0500) In Robert Ludlum's ground-breaking career, no other character so captured and held the world's imagination as Jason Bourne. He appeared in three of Robert Ludlum's own #1 bestselling novels - The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum - and they remain amongst Ludlum's most-read and most-loved books to this day. Now, for the first time ever, the Estate of Robert Ludlum has acceded to the demands of readers around the world, turning to bestselling author Eric Van Lustbader to bring Jason Bourne back to life in a thrilling new novel. Jason Bourne is known and feared in the deadly world of covert-ops as one of the most highly skilled assassins for hire. Bourne, however, was merely an identity assumed by CIA agent David Webb, a personality implanted by the CIA to facilitate a dangerous operation, but one that threatened to subsume David Webb entirely. Years after the events of The Bourne Identity, Webb is no longer an active CIA agent and is now a professor of Eastern Studies at Georgetown University, living a quiet life, far from the dangers of his previous life. Until one day he finds himself the target of an assassin nearly as skilled as himself and is framed for the brutal murder of his two closest associates and friends. Fighting for his life against unseen assailants, as well as the full resources of the CIA who believe he has gone dangerously rogue, the Bourne identity asserts itself, leaving Jason Bourne in control. Now Bourne must use all his skills to stay alive as he battles against a determined assassin, the combined skills of the world's intelligence networks, and a shadowy figure in the background, skillfully manipulating events and people, in a far deadlier and more dangerous game than any of them realize.… (more) (summary from another edition) |

A Chechen assassin named Khan is after Bourne, on an assignment to kill him. He takes his first shot through a window in an empty classroom at the college where David Webb teaches. When he shoots the bullet at Webb, the Jason Bourne identity kicks in. He dodges the bullet and moves into a crowd of people. This is when the identity of the merciless Jason Bourne takes over completely. He is now determined to find whoever tried to kill him. This journey takes him to his friend, Alexander Conklin, whom he finds dead, and he’s accused of killing him. He runs away from the oncoming police, leading him to a stream where his second run-in with Khan takes place. Khan appears to be an enemy who is determined to carry out his assignment, but then Bourne learns a secret that would change his life forever.
I had a great time reading this book, tearing through every page. Jason Bourne’s double identity keeps the book interesting and blood-pumping. Eric Van Lustbadar is a true genius for creating such a widely known series. I have read every book before this and have seen all of the movies. I loved every second of the experience of reading this book. If I were to rate this book, I would give this 5 out of 5 stars. The dramatic chase scenes and the romantic moments give this book the perfect balance that truly shows what a great book this is. I would recommend to anyone who likes to take a challenge in the reading world to pick up this book. The reason why I say to take a challenge is that the vocabulary is very advanced in this book. But, don’t worry, the great story line makes up for most of that.
