Jumper was so-so. It fits under my movie category and my genre category. I'm not much of a sci fi reader, although I'd say this just barely qualifies. The teleportation ... ... I think it will be a miracle if I just read the bare minimum.
I've laid out Emma for Jane Austen and 1001 Books; Jumper for Not My Genre and Books Made Into Movies; Interesting Times for Not My Genre; Hippo Eats Dwarf for Dewey Decimal; Shadow Music for Rainy Day Reads; Girlbomb ... I liked the (original) Jumper a lot - but everything i've heard about its adaptation makes it sound dreadful. And, unfortunately, evidently so too is the "sequel" that Gould produced as a tie in to the movie. Yeah, Jumper was a shame. Terrific idea, but nothing was done with it. I hear the book is worth a read.

Bob's praise for Jumper has me wondering. Maybe I'll give it a read some time. Jumper, the original novel, is a pretty good YA sci-fi/teleportion book. From everything i've read, the movie has nothing to do w/ the original, but has, unfortunately, driven the author, Gould, to write a follow on based on the flic. Pity. ... Whalen Turner. Did you hear that he got tapped to make Jumper into a movie? Only he ended up writing a whole new book called Jumper: Griffin's Story that the movie will be based on. It features this "Griffin" character ... I think Jumper by Steven Gould is a great book to ease someone into fantasy. It takes place in our world and features an ordinary guy who just happens to be able to teleport.
