The book, "A Pizza the Size of the Sun" is a great book of poems. The books has a ton of different poems. This book could be used as a wonderful education resource. I would read this book to third, fourth, or fifth graders. This book could be used for writing assignments or just for fun. ( )

The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales is a collection of fractured fairy tales.

I loved this book as a child. The artwork is amazing and the fractured fairy tales are adorable. I love the way the writer used a narrator who sometimes cut into the stories!

I would have students get into groups and choose a fairy tale to fracture and then act it out. I would use this to show that fairy tales are just for "babies".

A Pizza the Size of the Sun is a collection of fun poems for young people. (I reviewed the hardcover book version, not the CD that is listed in my title.) Poems range in length and style but are all kid friendly. There is a poem written backwards, a poem that can only be read in a mirror, a poem in the shape of a triangle and a walking circle poem. Black and white drawings are sprinkled through the poems and complement the text. There is an alphabetical index to titles as well as an index to first lines of poems. I would recommend this book to upper and lower elementary school readers as an example and a reminder that poetry can be fun. It can also serve as a great introduction to poetry for novices to the genre. This book is unique in that you can have the option to read it cover to cover or just open the book and find a random poem. Young readers will enjoy the flexibility and novelty of a new approach to reading. ( )

This book is about a boy who makes a pizza the size of the sun with many toppings.

I remember when I was little I used to help my mom in the kitchen and she would make a huge cake that would last for days.

Classroom extension ideas that I would use for the classroom is have students tell about food that they make. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0688132359, Hardcover)

Jack Prelutsky is widely acknowledged as the poet laureate of the younger generation. (And many people would happily see him crowned with no age qualification.) The New Kid on the Block and Something Big Has Been Here are household words wherever there are kids.

Here is another wondrously rich, varied, clever - and always funny - collection. Meet Miss Misinformation, Swami Gourami, and Gladiola Gloppe (and her Soup Shoppe), and delight in a backwards poem, a poem that ever ends, and scores of others that will be changed, read, and loved by readers of every age. The Prelutsky-Stevenson duo is irresistible. Whether you begin at the beginning or just open the book at random, you won't stop smiling.
