Whisper, you have an interesting discussion on your thread. I will have to check out A Slobbering Love Affair. I read The Assault on Reason last month, and he definitely talks about the media. It has an "anit-Bush" tone to it. I don't know if it is just me, but I enjoy reading political books ...

Read: 1/1/09-1/2/09

I agree with your few brief comments on the Assault on Reason . I don't think you should worry about being offensive though, after all it is your thread.

#87 The Assault on Reason by Al Gore
I don't even know where to begin. A month away from the election, I probably shouldn't try since I don't want to offend anybody. Suffice it to say that I agree with everything Gore says, I am outraged by the direction in which the current administration ...

I'm reading Assault on Reason right now, too, and as a fellow choir-member I'm having a similar response to it. Why are the people who disagree with me not reading this book? Assault on Reason , Al Gore audio book
I snuck in a listen to this rather long book when I should have been doing other things, but I couldn't not listen. This feels like one of those books that everyone should read (or listen to), but I have to admit that in my case he's preaching to ...

Finished Swan Song. Stuck on Beowulf. Finally, finally finished The Assault on Reason by Al Gore last night after 3 months of on and off again reading.
Will continue with Beowulf.
I'm almost finished with The Assault on Reason by Al Gore that I started in January. It just seemed time to pick it up again.
Also in the beginning of Beowulf, the Francis B. Grummere translation in the Harvard Classics for my 888 challenge.
For fun I'm going to start Bridget Jones's ...

And I have plans on finishing The Assault on Reason by Al Gore this month too.
Okay, I'm going to finish The Assault on Reason by Al Gore this month. I put it down in January because I had so much lovely fiction to read after being inspired by my 888 challenge, but I put Assault on the 888 challenge and it's time to finish it.
I just opened it and found the ...

I'm also reading The Assault on Reason by Al Gore, which although interesting, is always put down for something else. I'll work on it next - it's another 888 book.
Actually, all ...
I'm still reading The Assault on Reason by Al Gore. It's slow going but good. I've read 4 or 5 books since starting it.
Right now my non-Al Gore book is Perfume The Story of a Murderer by Patrick Suskind. It's quite good so far. The language is lyrical - a joy to read.

Plus, still working away at The Assault on Reason .
I'm still slogging on with The Assault on Reason . It's good and depressing because it's so true and I'm sick all over again about what Bush and Co have done to my country. It's a slow read.
I'm also reading Tempest by Laura Parker. It's a Regency and I've read it before... I'm ...
I started and and am greatly enjoying, in a sad way because what he's talking about is sooo depressingly true, The Assault on Reason by Al Gore. I was able to pull a quote out this morning while talking with my 14-year old about the NH Primaries.
It's not an easy read, since in 3 days I've ...
... Beleaguered Lord Bourne. I got rid of Passion and Secrets - weren't worth keeping on the shelves.
I have now started The Assault on Reason .
Since I've got a terrible sinus infection, I won't start with my intended first book of 2008, The assault on Reason by Al Gore - the way I feel I wouldn't do it justice. So today we're reading a lovely Regency romance by Kasey Michaels called The Secrets of the Heart.
I have just uncovered a used and tatty copy of The Assault and plan to read it soon. Will update when done. The copy is falling apart and the inside cover reads the former owner's name and "Its a keeper" underneath.
85. The Assault on Reason
While this book has recieved rave reviews, I didn't particularly enjoy it. It read like a university essay, with boring prose, facts hammered away at, and some odd digressions. Did it say anything new? Not really.
While it is an important topic, this book may not be ...
I understand that Al Gore's new book Assault on Reason discusses the influence of media, along with other topics. Like Chomsky, he writes from a left of center perspective. However, he is significantly more mainstream.

26) The Assault on Reason by Al Gore - (audiobook) - Gore's bash at the current regime through a look at society's declining interest in "reason". It gets a bit bogged down in details we've already heard a million times before on news programs but overall it is an intelligent look on how the ...
Just realized I never added The Assault on Reason by Al Gore which I read a month or two ago. 37 down.
I finished The Assault on Reason last night and this morning picked up Grace (Eventually) by Anne Lamott. Also still reading The Grapes of Wrath and loving it. Determined to finish the last bit of Power Down in the next few days, which I put aside for Al Gore, then I need to take a ...
7. The Assault on Reason by Al Gore. Important book, not just for its indictment of the Bush administration but for its clear assessment of the dangerous place the US is in toward losing our democracy (what's left of it). Somewhat repetitive and a bit egocentric in places. But Gore is ...
When I finish The Assault on Reason by Al Gore, the next nonfiction will probably be The Sea Around Us by Rachel Carson. Next up for fiction after The Grapes of Wrath will be either The Lizard Cage or 1984.
I'm reading Al Gore's The Assault on Reason . He is brilliant; the book is well researched, very accessible, a strong indictment of the Bush admin. A bit repetitive in places, but overall a very good read. Highly recommend.
Tim, what about 666?
(I am just 4 books short of that mark. Heh. I might just go and buy The assault on reason by Al Gore from my wish list, according to some quite a devilish author *g*.)
20. Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

I'll be finishing A Thousand Splendid Suns tonight; next up: The Lizard Cage and The Assault on Reason . And still have Sense and Sensibility to finish.
I'm just beginning A Thousand Splendid Suns 5 chapters in. And for my nonfiction, I'll start The Assault on Reason tonight.
I was so excited to start Suns today, I even dreamed about it last night.
It was a red letter library day for me:
A Thousand Splendid Suns
The Assault on Reason
Grave Matters
The Lizard Cage
Waking the Tiger
The beginners guide to forgiveness (audio)
I have a couple of things to finish up tonight before I gleefully dig into this new pile.

P.S. Gore's new book, The Assault on Reason --that's his nickname, no? Kinda like Michael Moore and Sicko ?
My favorite book for June thus far is The Assault on Reason by Al Gore.
I just started The Assault on Reason by Al Gore - and am finding it to be enlightening from not just a left-of-center POV, but from the standpoint of how technology is dumbing down America.
Al Gore's new book The Assault on Reason . It's an impassioned discussion of what's wrong with American politics and media.
Kevin Phillips's Wealth and Democracy is pretty good, if statistics- and table-rich.

So who else has purchased Al Gore's new book The Assault on Reason ?
I know one of our newest members has, since I suggested she and I move our discussion over here in order not to violate the no-politics rule in a different group.
I'm just beginning to read it this weekend.
I'm reading The Assault on Reason by Al Gore. I've only read three chapters so far, but I am very impressed by this well-reasoned, well-written book. Anyone interested in the state of politics and the welfare of the country should read this book.
The other member of the household read The Assault on Reason ; she finished it depressed. Since she's been around since the Hoover Administration, it takes a lot to do that.
You can understand why I'm hesitant to start it, I hope. ;)
*whistles innocently*
Just got a package from B&N today.
