1249. A Question of Judgment: The Fortas Case and the Struggle for the Supreme Court, by Robert Shogan (31 Oct 1973) This is a newsman's account of the Abe Fortas matter, written in 1971. I said: "The small scandal of Fortas is now overshadowed by Watergate, Agnew, et al. This book contains this unconscious prophecy: 'the Watergate apartments, the luxurious condominium whose popularity with Nixon's appointees had made it into a symbol of the new Administration.' Fortas resigned May 14, 1969. On Dec 6, 1997, I read a much more ambitious work by Bruce Allen Murphy, entitled Fortas: The Rise and Fall of a Supreme Court Justice. It was published in 1988 and reads like a novel. It is the book to read if one is interested in the Abe Fortas matter, rather than the Shogan book. ( )
