Biographies are not my thing and I have issues with Kobe Bryant. However, many of my students check this book out and I thought it would be a good one for me to familiarize myself with. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't love it, but I can at least see why the kids do. I am a fan of Matt Christopher and feel he is right on target for his audience. I also appreciated the fact that the book was not only about Kobe's basketball life, but also about many of the challenges he had to face growing up. I would be curious to see a revised edition more current than the copyright date of 2001:) ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0316137324, Paperback)

Kobe Bryant may be one of the youngest basketball players in the NBA, but no one would dare call him inexperienced. The son of former NBA player Joe "Jellybean: Bryant, Kobe spent his childhood watching professional basketball. From the moment he could handle a ball, he was learning to dribble and shoot. At age eighteen he was given the chance to prove his stuff when he was drafted into the NBA. Fresh out of high school, Kobe showed he had the talent and the heart to make it in the pros.
