STOP READING THE NEWS is a vital toolkit for managing the upsetting coronavirus news cycle and finding equilibrium and calm at a time of chaos and uncertainty In 2013 Rolf Dobelli stood in front of a roomful of journalists and proclaimed that he did not read the news. It caused a riot. Now the author of the bestselling The Art of Thinking Clearly finally sets down his philosophy in detail. And he practises what he preaches: he hasn't read the news for a decade. In a world of increasing disruption and division, Stop Reading the News is a welcome voice of calm and wisdom.… (more)

After quitting Facebook and most other social media a few years before, reading this book was a reminder of why. Many of the same reasons for giving up social media were just as applicable to the news. Confirmed many thoughts I had already had about reading the news and gave me more reasons to stop. I stopped reading the main news media in 2019 and could not have been happier with that decision. So glad to have made that stop right before the pandemic. A note for skeptics, this book does not advise giving up news entirely. It mentiones how you will hear the news you will actually need anyway and outlines smarter and more beneficial ways of reading some news. ( )
