Definitely try out Skulduggery Pleasant. ... as intelligent-sounding as the recommendations we've had so far but some of my favourites from previous years have been:
Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy - it's YA fiction which does show in the style but it made me giggle. A lot. And the edges of the pages are orange - what's not to love?
... I really liked Skulduggery Pleasant. It was such a weird book, but I loved it! I don't remember the girl's name now (it's late) but I liked her attitude.

Skulduggery Pleasant - I think it's actually children's but I enjoyed it heaps.
Kiki Strike - Love. And I think the sequel is coming out soon, if it hasn't already. I recently finished Skulduggery Pleasant (which was freaking awesome) and What happened to Cass McBride (which also happened to incredibly freaking awesome).
