... really good reads on the journey too. I like your thoughtful, careful reviews, Rebecca. Your thread is like that book Book Lust: I always find something I might like to try.

I agree, Book Lust is a gem. I rec'd. this as a present and refer to it often.

Book #98 - Book Lust: Recommended Reading for Every Mood, Moment, and Reason - Nancy Pearl - Finished November 12, 2009 I do not need to add more books to my TBR list. All of you here on LT have add dozens and dozens of titles every week. But I got this book for Christmas last year. It is ...

I recently received Book Lust as a gift. It is divided into specific categories of reading. I'm breezing through it and enjoying it a lot. This love of books is such an obsession.

104. The New Lifetime Reading Plan by Clifton Fadiman (father of the author of Ex Libris) After finishing Book Lust, I was still in the mood for 'books about books', so I picked up this one. This book is a guide to world literature, with recommended reading for each author included. I ...

102. Book Lust by Nancy Pearl Nancy Pearl is a delightful librarian/book expert, and this book is filled with her reading suggestions for more genres than I knew existed! I found this book to be a lot like reading our 75 book challenge threads - I read through it quickly when the book topics ...

... a ravenous reader or both?! Congrats on finishing your 2nd challenge and good luck on your 3rd. I do think you should do a Book Lust category. I've added you to the list and counted you on the ticker again. Go Cmbohn go! Go cyderry go! I expect to see you both back here finished soon!! ...

Hey, two books away is awesome too. Congrats on your pending finish! I just bought the book Book Lust by Nancy Pearl so I think I might use that for inspiration for a category. It's really interesting to see what she recommends in each genre.

Well, I opened Book Lust for about 2 minutes and added a handful of books to my TBR. So I think I'm going to put it back on the shelf!

Doing a search on this group I came across Book Lust for 011. Nancy Pearl's other books would presumably qualify as well.

Glad Book Lust was a good fit, BJ! I've read The Color of Water. He's not a great writer, but it was an interesting read. Being from the south, you'll enjoy it that much more I'm thinking. (Do you consider yourself from the south?)

... to really sit down and read the book. I have so many books right now that I want to read that I am afraid that if I read Book Lust I would just add more books to my wish list and TBR pile. Now about the 50 page rule. I have never tried this because I am usually afraid that I may just like ...

... nie! I have to agree that manageable numbers and tbr and wishlist are an oxymoron. But how fun is that? I glanced through Book Lust and decided that I really did want it. I also browsed and picked up a book that I had never heard of before: The Color of Water by James McBride. Oh, I just ...

... good advice! LTers already give me waaaay too many new possibilities for terrific reads, so I've been holding off on Book Lust until I get my TBRs to a manageable number (ha!!). So it's worth a look at it next time I'm in the store to see if it even belongs on my wishlist.

... reading it for a group read, I persevered but I bet I read at least 150% of that book! I am so glad that you brought up Book Lust, Monica, as I have a coupon to Borders for 25% off of everything, and I really want to get that book. Speaking of picking up those extras, tututhefirst, I am ...

... over and then realize that I had read that part. I am trying to only read one book at a time (yeah right). I had started Book Lust and I haven't picked it up since I bought it home from the store. Good luck on finishing a book before you start a new one. Monica

... the fun of it, I had her give me a off-the-cuff book recommendation (it was The Mandarins). I then went to get a copy of Book Lust. When I run out of ideas of what to read, I'll look into her book. :)

... By the way, I had the good fortune to meet Nancy Pearl and chat with her at one of the National Book festivals. I have Book Lust at home, but I'm afraid to even open it as my TBR pile has grown exponentially with the book just being in my house! :)

... over the new parents' pain is best kept to one's self.) ETA: Forgot to mention that Pearl has two wonderful books out: Book Lust and More Book Lust. They are wonderful reads in themselves, but be forewarned...the TBR pile will grow exponentially with each reading!

I'm more of a Nancy Peal gal myself (much prefer her Book Lust to 1001 books TRBYD) ...but to each his own! I would say definitely include the audiobooks! Like it says in the group description it's up to YOU how you decide to make your list and thread. Happy reading/listening!

16. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult In a seminar on Reader's Advisory by Nancy Pearl (the Book Lust author), we were challenged to read something out of our normal selections. So, this was my pick. The book had an interesting concept, but the writing was not real strong, and I ...

>134 furdog, sorry for the slow reply, have some catching up to do! I liked Book Lust and haven't had the experience you've had yet with picking some books I didn't like. There are quite a few that she has listed that I've read already and did like, so I'm hoping not to be disappointed. I'm ...

... read and to recommend books to others at work (I'm a librarian). I've enjoyed reading the reviews on your thread as well - Book Lust is a book I'm hoping to get to this year, even though I really don't need to be adding anything to my mental TBR piles (or physical ones, for that matter!).

You've got me very, very intrigued about Book Lust. My wish list already has over 600 books on it (and growing...) so it's probably the last thing I need. But I fear I may just have to get it nonetheless. Will keep you posted.

hmm..I'm not exactly loving Twilight...I'll save my rant for the review, however! Have you read Book Lust at all, Crazy4reading? Are you enjoying it?

... way you do about the Twilight book. I definitely have to re-read them soon. I wanted to let you know that I just bought Book Lust at Borders today. It is on my TBR pile or I may just read it a little bit at a time. I am afraid I may see more books to buy...

Well I finally got a hold of a book that I have seen mentioned on LT. At Borders today I bought: Book Lust by Nancy Pearl I am waiting for The Associate by John Grisham to be delivered. It was just shipped out the other day. It was on back order from one of my book clubs.

>62 I have not seen Book Lust in the stores. I did find out that if I wanted it I would have to order Book Lust, so I figure I will buy it when I have the money and from Amazon then.

>49: I keep seeing Book Lust in the store and, well, lusting after it, but I think the last thing I need is a book encouraging me to find more books! LT does a more-than-adequate job of that.

The Yellow lighted bookshop does look interesting. I am going to have wish list it on Amazon. I didn't but Book Lust, because it wasn't in stock at Borders. I will just have to order it from Amazon. Instead I bought my daughter her book for the AP Spanish exam she will be taking.

Alas, I only discovered the treasure that is Book Lust this year! Quite a disgrace for a bibliophile, I'm afraid :P I wasn't inclined to seek out More Book Lust in the first place (trying to learn when to say "enough") and after your review I certainly know that I won't be bothering. Don't have lots of non-fiction on the list this year - we'll see what slips in! So far I've read Book Lust (like I need more recommendationss since joining LT - admittedly bought before I joined....) and I'm currently reading Obama: From Promise to Power, a biography by David Mendell.

avaland in Science Fiction Fans : Giving Up? (Jan 30, 2009, 5:03pm)

The Nancy Pearl, librarian and author of Book Lust (and the only librarian to have an action figure modeled on her) formula for "when do you give up" is the first 100 pages minus your age. Life is too short.

... I never really read Literature/Fiction before and now that is all I am buying at the store. I will be looking into Book Lust soon.

That is why I am afraid to try Book Lust, because I know it will add to my TBR pile.

Hi parmaviolet! You really should look for Book Lust, but beware! Your TBR will increase significantly!

Hi, girlunderglass. I see you've read The secret history - I enjoyed it too. Also, Book lust looks interesting. I'll have to look out for it.

#5: Book Lust by Nancy Pearl I bought this book before discovering LibraryThing, and even after the LT discovery, I'm glad I picked it up. This is a book about books. Nancy Pearl has put together 172 short chapters, arranged alphabetically, that list books, some described, and some ...

... Of course it might have been just lucky, I might end up hating everything else Pearl suggests - I don't know I haven't read Book Lust yet. So I don't know if you should give her another try but you should certainly give Murdoch one!
