Ines Murillo awakes with a hangover in an empty bathroom at a sort of boarding school/college. She has been chosen to attend the Catherine House, an experiment where very carefully selected teen-agers, most of them are 17, are allowed to explore whatever they love learning about, but also to explore alcohol, and a bit of sex. The agreement is, the students give Catherine House 3 years of their lives -- they have NO connection with the outside world at all, no email, no letters, no phone calls and no vacation -- and after the three years, the school promises that the can become anything they want to be.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
But the novel only explores what the school might be doing under the radar, and it's not pretty. A page turning thriller about coming of age for the elect, for the people who believe that the gifted deserve to rule the world. It's horrifying, but fascinating. ( )
