From cover to cover Mr. Campbell kept this reader enthralled with daring naval space action coupled with a bit of betrayal and even some romance. What I especially like about Mr. Campbell’s writing is the second and third guessing his main character Captain Geary goes through when making potentially life altering determinations. Mr. Campbell’s Captain Geary converses with his id, ego and superego regularly and I haven’t read many authors who give us such snippets of their characters subconscious thought processes. Hopefully when I pick up book three, it will live up to the high standards set by the first two. ( )The battles are exciting, and the military strategy is fascinating. The characters are a bit wooden (would it kill us to know what anybody looks like? or sounds like?) I was disappointed in the quick and easy dismissal of a promisingly annoying villain--he looked like he was going to be such fun to hate, and he disappeared for half the book and was disposed of in a 5-page scene. Bah! I will keep reading, though. A decent 'space opera' or space navy book. It seems like it has been a long time since someone has written a straightforward, us-against-them space navy book, something that feels like it is more out of the 50's. This book was enjoyable to read, and made me look forward to the rest of the series. This is the second book in the Lost Fleet series that follows the adventures of Black Jack Geary. I loved the first book and I loved this one, for the same reasons mainly. The story is original and intersting, you believe the characters are real people with real decisions to make, and great action. Jack Campbells view of space travel and space warfare much more like I'd actually expect to see. Space may free you from gravity, but not physics. This book is also very character driven for a military sci-fi book or really any sci-fi book. That is, with out doubt, my favorite part of the book. Fearless is a very interesting and fast read. Don't take that the wrong way, fast in a good way. The story doesn't suffer, but you'll actually have time to read it! no reviews | add a review
