If you read other reviews and then see I've read it, you've probably thought I lost my mind. Possibly I could have. Because in what universe does this hearts and flowers reader voluntarily reads a very emotionally charged story? Apparently this one.

First, if you read my review for book 1 which sent you over here, I just really don't feel I can discuss fairly the entire story one without the other. In all seriousness, I feel I can do so without spoilers. In the vein of honesty, there are subject/tropes contained within the pages that often frustrate or I avoid as a reader. Yes, there is push/pull in the early development of the characters. Yes, there are emotional scenes that are heartbreaking to read. Yes, it is not all romance, but we get there when the characters need to be there.

So, for all the angst and drama the story delivers, Claudia Burgoa makes it all work. This story couldn't exist without it. I applaud the delivery in the second half. The easy and safe route was to have everything 'get better' and now we live happily ever after. Ms. Burgoa shows us that people with the edges raw just under the surface can find love and happiness. It wasn't just Abby but Wes who was in need of understanding, and some healing. I can't say healed, as again, Claudia Burgoa gave us the characters as their work in progress in this life.

What's the final? Yes, readers rejoice as you will get a HEA. Book 1 focus on the past and present melding together for a final confrontation to the breakpoint. Book 2 focus on the present to overcome past to have the life they deserve. Each main and secondary characters worked. For me, I could connect with Abby not on a personal tragedy level, but on what it takes for women to make our place in our world. I had a fascination with reading this character's arc. Abby was the definite driver to keep me engaged. Wes, although interesting as the hero, didn't win me over until 50% of book 2. Not saying he wasn't equally well written. I just found myself wanted to smack him upside the head for having blinders on.

Readers who love the emotional rollercoaster reads - will love this duet. It was a surprise for me. But now I need some rom-com. 4.5 stars for the duet ( )
