That was so funny and romantic!!! I think the second part of these serie is so much better than the first! More Hong Kong books that have not been mentioned: City of the Queen, by Shih Shu-Ching, a wonderful novel (actually the author abridged a three-volume work that I wish could be translated in full; and two fascinating memoirs by Brits: Golden Boy by Martin Booth, and Myself a Mandarin ... ... on lists and in blogs for a while. It was very good but better for my older readers of fantasy than my younger ones.

Anyway, I decided I should probably take a break from Important Fiction, and read Queen of Babble in the Big City by Meg Cabot. It was light and fun, but I didn't enjoy it as much as her other books. Really, the whole Queen of Babble series is a bit ... ... vows never to have fun again). It's a very quick read, and certainly not earth-shattering, but quite enjoyable.
