The Name of the Wind is what I'm reading at the moment -- and I'm glad I finally got to it because it is excellent thus far. :)

#97 - Navigator7 - Waycool! #98, puddleshark The Name of the Wind was extremely readable. I adored the opening. You will REALLY want to get to the second book, given where it ends. It was one of the favorited titles at Fanlit, too.

#95 Thanks! I'm going to add The name of the wind to my Xmas list! #96 I agree, Carole Berg's last two books were awe-inspiring - Breath and Bone restored my faith in the genre (somewhat undermined by large quantites of mediocre vampire romances)... And I'm definitely going to check out www.f ...

#94 Have you tried The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss yet? If you enjoy Janny's work, I'm sure you will enjoy it as well. Its one of the best fantasy novels I've read this year.

... character-focused epic feel, and is one of the best books I've read in awhile! I think you'd also really enjoy Rothfuss' Name of the Wind, but it's a bit killer because it's the start to a series and not terribly well self-contained. We're still waiting on the second! If you like YA at all, ...

The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is pretty good too, we did a group read of it awhile back and I think the general consensus was favourable. I'm impatiently waiting for the sequel *sigh*.

... were as old as the genre, but Greenland did something fresh and new with them and with the story itself. I don't know that The Name of the Wind is bad; it might be very good. But I have lower expectations when it comes to high fantasy. And I don't think that's unwarranted.

Review of The Name of the Wind here. I've yet to be convinced any new high fantasy is "good". They have to hew so closely to the template to succeed that they can't be good by definition.

I'm almost done with The Name of the Wind. It's a very entertaining read. I think the hype is a bit overblown, but I would definitely recommend it. What to read next? I really should finish up Tigana. Then again, there's so many other interesting reads on my TBR and GGK is such a downer. And ...

... that lots of people know, but how many have actually read it? I haven't, yet. So I'd be up for that if it comes off. The Name of the Wind would get my vote if we're going to go for a modern fantasy story. Other classic works? Erm... She by H Rider Haggard? Any Tarzan ...

I would like to push The Name of the Wind since Patrick Rothfuss is an LT author, we might be able to get him to join in on the discussion, if not I am up for Alice in Wonderland, I've been meaning to read that for quite a while now. (And I'm another who hasn't read any of his work yet, ...

... but you've never read Lewis Carroll?!!!! Wow....I'd love to read it again, it's so very clever. I'll throw The Name of the Wind in there as a candidate since I'm about 3/4 through it. It's pretty good, maybe not the second coming of Christ like the critics say, but it's ...

bib, have you read The Name of the Wind? I just started it, but I have the feeling that all the hype is justified and it's the next big thing in fantasy.

... to go back and finish Tigana after I got distracted by The Lightning Thief (which was fun), but then amazon delivered The Name of the Wind and I made the fatal mistake: "I'll just read the first chapter to see how he writes." 100 pages later, I can't wait to get home for lunch to keep ...

I was just wondering since The Name of the Wind was one of the books seriously considered, and the paperback will be released on April 1st, do we want to try to get him to participate in a group read of his book? It appears that the paperback edition of The Name of the Wind is only available for pre-order from Barnes & Noble. It's due out on April 1. So that's out, too.

Is The Name of the Wind out in paperback yet? If not that would be one thing against reading it right now (though it is really good). I guess my top three would be Good Omens, Foreigner or the Once and Future King.

... the second half. Even my parents enjoyed it, and they've barely heard of Pratchett. I'll be reading it once I get through The Name of the Wind and borrow the book off a friend.

I just got back from the post-christmas sales. I bought Patrick Rothfuss' The Name of the Wind and Diana Wynne Jones' The Pinhoe Egg (plus the Babylon 5 Lost Tales finally came out here, so I'm watching that this evening).

... was given a copy of A Moveable Feast. So far, this is my only book, other whan one suggested by a friend as a gift-proxy, The Name of the Wind. My gifts from family in Minnesota have yet to arrive, however, and those typically are books. :)

The Name of the Wind is great one I read recently. Start of a series though, and the rest haven't been published yet. Some people don't like having to wait. ;)

Just finished Patrick Rothfuss's The Name of the Wind, 2/3rds of it was excellent, and Resonance by Chris Dolley. Have been catching up with the short stories in the magazines.

I have read two of these, Name of the Wind and Last Light of the Sun I really liked the first one, though to me the middle is a bit weaker than the beginning. I read the other one a long time ago, and have no memory of whether I liked it or not (probably not a good sign).

What about Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss? I surfed through Amazon.com's top 100 for 2007 today and it made their list. I'm not sure if it will in other Amazon countries. It's a strong debut. I liked it better than the Lynch.

The Name of the Wind was a very good book. It was an excellent example of story telling in a traditional sense. The author's main character began telling the story of his life and at the same time, events in the present were bearing down on him. The writing has both humanity and polish ...

I've read The Name of the Wind and Cryptonomicon. I thought the first was a pretty good start to a series, and I'm looking forward to the next volume in 2008. I haven't read any of those! *blush* But, my daughter read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss and really loved it. I just love how the touchstone for the book points to Patrick Rothfuss, but the touchstone for Patrick Rothfuss himself is glowing bright read, which implies he's ...

The Name of the Wind I'm almost finished with it, and so far I like it a lot. Grand Conspiracy b/c I have to reread the series before I get the new book.

#300 - ooh, horray for Bartimaeus! He's one of my favourite narrators. I'm about halfway through The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It's quite addictive; I'm not exactly emotionally involved with it, but I'm still having a bloody good time.

I've just started The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. It's perhaps the only book I've ever picked up because of those "if you like this, you might like..." suggestions on Amazon.

Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. His author's statement in the SFBC flyer was full of zap, and I fell for it. Now the book's tantalizing me from the To Be Read heap, and I'm trying not to play hookey from writing....just yet....but I will cave in, eventually. I enjoy the surprise ...
