The Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George
When we were gods : a novel of Cleopatra by Colin Falconer

4 How Novels Work - John Mullan
5 The Memoirs of Cleopatra - Margaret George
6 The Feminine Mystique - Betty Friedan (reread)
7 Animal's People - Indra Sinha
8 The Haunted Hotel - Wilkie Coll ... ... TBR pile, but cannot vouch for it yet. She's a consistently good writer, so might be worth a try.
Thought of another: Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George was quite good if you're not intimidated by a door-stop of a book. The very beginning is a bit slow, but it picks up quickly. ... I guess January was just a good month for me with lots of reading time or lots of short books. The one I've just started The Memoirs of Cleopatra is around 1,200 pages so that should drag the average down even more. Interesting if pointless. I'm nearly done with Memoirs of Cleopatra and moving onto The Sacred History of Britain that I got in hardback from Half Price books for $5. I feel that I'm having trouble concentrating on the end of the Memoirs of Cleopatra, though, because I'm so excited to start the next new book. Does ... I'm currently in Egypt with The Memoirs of Cleopatra. jlcardwell, Water For Elephants was one of my favorite reads from last year. Will be interested in how you like Memoirs of Cleopatra when you finish--its in my TBR pile.
I am reading Snow by Orhan Pamuk, which although I like so far--its not an easy read. ... to get through because it is so long, but it is really not hard reading. I'm really enjoying the first 100 pages or so of Memoirs of Cleopatra, a bit out of my normal historical fiction time period, so we'll see how it goes. Finished Water for Elephants far too fast, so now I'm reading Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George. Those 900 or so pages should hopefully slow me down a bit. I really liked it too! That one and The Memoirs of Cleopatra are my favorites by Margaret George.
In the meantime, I'm not supposed to buy books until I've read more of the ones I own. This is sad and probably won't last very long, anyway. ;) I did really like it (of course I've been all but obseessed with reading about the Tudors), I just bought her The Memoirs of Cleopatra and have Helen of Troy, Mary, Queen of Scotland and the Isles and Mary, Called Magdalene on my wishlist. ... Isles, and The Autobiography of Henry VIII, with Notes by His Fool, Will Somers. She has also written Helen of Troy, The Memoirs of Cleopatra and Mary, Called Magdalene, but I have not read them yet. Her books are enormous, but excellent. ... If I've got this right, Woodbear I chose a book for you now. I pick mary, called magdalene by magaret george. I've read memoirs of cleopatra and the autobiography of henry viii and liked them both--I'd love to hear what you think of mary. Enjoy!
when picking for me please choose from TB ... ...

The Oysters of Locmariaquer by Eleanor Clark
Voices by Ursula Le Guin
The Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George
Elegy for a Lost Star by Elizabeth Haydon
Casual Rex and Hot and Sweaty Rex by Eric Garcia
The Three Musket ... I finally finished Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George -- It took me forever (well, two weeks, actually) to read as it is ~ 950 huge pages of small type. But it was worth it as I just utterly was lost in Ancient Rome and Egypt. Good historical fiction is like magic.
I have just ... I am floating down the Nile for the umpteenth time with the beheometh of a novel that is Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George. ... - I also put The Poisonwood Bible up there with my top ~10 or so books of all time. Hope you enjoy.
I just started Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George. Hope it is better than Helen of Troy. I am in the mood for some historical fiction. something slightly lighter. I ... ... give Margaret George a try.
Of Margaret George's books, I would recommend the autobiography of Henry viii or Memoirs of Cleopatra. Recently read Helen of Troy which was good. Tried reading Mary Queen of Scots and the Isles but had a tough time getting into it, so put it down. ... ... by gods. I've really enjoyed her other works, with the exception of Mary, Called Magdalene. I'd recommend her The Memoirs of Cleopatra or The Autobiography of Henry VIII if you're willing to give her another shot. Neither of them involve gods as people and I think they're her ... ... book! One of the best memoirs I've ever read ... those kids were so poor, yet in some ways quite rich.
Also reading The memoirs of Cleopatra : a novel by Margaret George - going quite slowly... it's a huge book and not much happening .. Ship fever by Andrea Barrett and A ... Delivered from Amazon:

I justify buying multiple books with ... ... book set in the area. I am going to Egypt in January and plan to take with me Palace Walk and possibly something else. Memoirs of Cleopatra is a little big, though, so I don't know about that one! ... with many, many backtracks and rewinds.
The only really terrible one I came across was an audio of Margaret George's Memoirs of Cleopatra; the reader had such a singsong voice - it was not only annoying but made the book seem fluffy. I never finished it.
Most recent great audio book ... ... more like historical fiction: The River God and its sequel Warlock.
Margaret George has a massive book called Cleopatra.
Paul Doherty or P.C. Doherty has a mystery series set during the time of Hatshepsut. The Mask of Ra is the first. The others are: The Horus Killin ...
