This is obviously designed as a college text, but I liked it very much. I have long thought I knew all I needed to know on the 16th century, but I found this survey so interesting I am wondering if I should, once again, read in the area. I found that the appeal of sheer history is overwhelming. The "Suggestions for Further Reading" are full of solid books which seem appetizing and which includes Pastor's 40 volumes, all of which I have read, and some other great books like Ullman's work on the Great Schism (read 24 Aug 1981) and Iserloch's work on the 95 theses (read 28 Dec 1980) and C. V. Wedgwood's work on the Thirty Years War--all books I relish in my memory. This is great book, on a fascinating time in world history. ( )
