I love Tom Clancy's writing and Jack Ryan is probably his best character. Every one of his books featuring him is outstanding and this one is no exception. ( )

Soms duurde het me allemaal wat te lang en waren de uiteenzettingen me wat te technisch van aard. Maar over het algemeen toch een erg prettig boek om te lezen. Het blijft trekken, dus de volgende is al opengeslagen. ( )

I think this was my first Tom Clancy book, and it got me hooked for many years, until I could no longer handle having his conservative politics pushed down my throat.

This was a very good read, lots of suspense, lots of what made his books so popular. ( )

Another Clancy great! Jack Ryan series where new characters emerge and eventually, they move into their own books as lead characters. ( )

Epigraph
Why, you may take the most gallant sailor, the most intrepid airman or the most audacious soldier, put them at a table together – what do you get? The sum of their fears.

Winston Churchill
[T]he two contenders met, with all their troops, on the field of Camlan to negotiate. Both sides were fully armed and desperately suspicious that the other side was going to try some ruse or stratagem. The negotiations were going along smoothly until one of the knights was stung by an asp and drew his sword to kill the reptile. The others saw the sword being drawn and immediately fell upon each other. A tremendous slaughter ensued. The chornicle ... isquite specific about the point that the slaughter was excessive chiefly because the battle took place without preparations and premeditation.

Herman Kahn, On Thermonuclear War
Dedication
