A pretty fun novella. I haven’t read the original trilogy, but there wasn’t any confusion. The world and magic feel unique and weird in a good way, and there’s plenty of intrigue, even if the main mystery is not terribly involved. Loved the dynamic between main characters, which really reminds me of the kind of BL manhwa I usually gravitate towards – vaguely historical, intense, with power-games abound.

Definitely want to read more from the author. ( )

This novella is a stand-alone story in the Dominion of the Fallen universe, and I read it with no prior knowledge of the main series. That caused me no trouble at all — though I do now want to go back and read the books that came before this story, because the world is fascinating. I loved the dragon dynasty and want to learn more about it, but I also am curious by the different races present. (Orca and fish and crabs too? I need to know how this works!) ( )
