Five short stories by Willa from her other books: Neighbor Rosicky, The Best Years, Paul's Case, The Enchanted Bluff, Tom Outland's Story. I LOVED all of these, with the possible exception of Paul's Case. Willa Cather was recommended by Wallace Stegner. She can really evoke a strong sense of place. Great western stories about open space, exploration, rootlessness, rootedness, community and character. Neighbor Rosicky was probably my favorite, a great story about Czech immigrant farmers and how to really love people.
