Why is it courageous, as Vendler asserts in a NY Times review of this, for John Serio to have omitted from his selections Stevens' juvenilia? Seems like a basic move to me. And what's wrong with Stevens not being "Stevens"? Apparently, the omission of his "unpublished poems of unhappy love" ensures Stevens shall be the impermeable inhuman Stevens we much prefer.
