Pippi was and is my hero
Pippi Longstocking is a 9 years old girl that lives in a big old colorful house called “Villa Motley” outside of a village. She has long red hair that she wears in braids that stick out of her head. She wears very big shoes, probably size 46, because she likes to have space in her shoes to wiggle her toes. Pippi Longstocking does not go to school and she lives without her parents. Her full name is Pippilotta Viktualia Rollgardina Pfefferminz Ephraim’s daughter Longstocking. She has a horse called “Littler Uncle” and a little monkey called “Mr. Nielson”. She can lift her horse up with her hands. Because she is so strong and has no fear, she can live with out a grown-up. Pippi is full of mischief all the time and she is very adventurous. The book is funny and interesting because there is always something going on. I recommend this book for children 7 till 10. Book recommendation by L I just don't quite feel right making any judgments on this story until I have been able to finish it myself, so for now I will withhold my commentary. I will say, however, that I have enjoyed it so far and look forward to finishing it tomorrow. I remember enjoying this and other Pippi Longstocking books as a child, but not so much as an adult: Perhaps I no longer find her lack of self-control and her inability to think about the consequences of her actions less amusing and more disturbing. This is a story of a little girl living in a big house in a Swedish village. She lives with her monkey and horse. Her father, a pirate, was lost at sea. In the book she shares outrageous adventures with her neighbors Tommy and Anika. Pippi has extreme strength and if full of extravagant stories. Each chapter is another adventure, from her saving children from a burning house to stopping theives from stealing her money. This ia great read-aloud book for first graders. Each chapter reads like it's own story. Very outrageous and fun. Loved the movies and TV show as a kid, love the book even more as an adult. Lighthearted, quick read, big smiles. This is a wonderful edition of a book that deserves its status as a classic. My favorite chapter is when Pippi has coffee with the ladies. Brilliant mockery of the self-important adults. Strange combination of Amelia Bedelia, Cat in the Hat with a hint of Roald Dahl wrapped into one precocious little girl. Painful to read chapter after chapter, much more palatable individually. Pippi believes her mother is an angel and her father the king of the cannibals. At age 9 she lives without adult supervision with a horse and monkey. She spends her days with the children next door who enjoy Pippi's antics. THis book really opens kids mind with the freedom to be able to do whatever they want. Pippi and her friends go through different adventures and crazy activies. She is a heart felt young girl. Her horse and her monkey are her closets family. Pippi was and is my hero Pippi is an irrepressible, irreverent, and irrefutably delightful girl who lives alone (with a monkey) in her wacky house, Villa Villekulla. When she's not dancing with the burglars who were just trying to rob her house, she's attempting to learn the "pluttification" tables at school; fighting Adolf, the strongest man in the world at the circus; or playing tag with police officers. Pippi's high-spirited, good-natured hijinks cause as much trouble as fun, but a more generous child you won't find anywhere. A great fun novel celebrating a kid's rambunctious, laissez fair attitude who makes her own rules. So funny and light-hearted has you questioning any polite social behaviours you were taught and has you wanting to rebel against em! and to be plain silly for silly's sake. A thoroughly enjoyable romp. An 9-year-old girl with a fortune in gold, a monkey, and horse, super-hero strength, and no parents. I have loved this book ever since 3rd grade. It's a great read for anyone who's looking for an easy read. It's still the hilarious children's novel I remember from my childhood. I really look forward to reading this to my children someday... I remember that the hijinks this girl got up to inspired me when I was younger, although not necessarily to be badly behaved. Just to be more curious, like a "thing-finder" as Pippi and her friends become. Or to explore woods or look at things in a different way. A unique children's classic, to be sure. Pippi Longstockings is a girl of tremendous strength and talent who brings an adventurous spirit to a small village in Sweden(?). She's a girl who has everything, except parents. New Classic Fiction This book is fun and really silly. It totally captured my imagination and made me wish my own life were more adventurous. It's a great one. I think using this book as a jumping off point for kids to imagine their own fantasy lives. The way Pippi finds adventure in her own neighborhood the way she did on the South Seas would really grab kid's attention. The language is a bit antiquated though and may need some explaining. One of my favourite children's books ever. Picked up an English translation recently to fill a hole in Paul's education and promptly re-read it myself. Pippi is clearly the best female role model for little girls ever. Slight mark-down for the translation - the Bulgarian one I have being (almost certainly) superior in its purging of the one reference to religion. this is my favorot Book!. Funny. Had my 5 year old giggling and begging for more. As soon as we finished she asked to go back and re-read her favourite chapters. I still have memories of enjoying it as a child and it was fun to revisit. I like that each chapter can be read as a short story of it’s own. As a kid with freckles and red hair, Pippi was my hero. I love how tough she is. I read this book over and over as a kid, and I still have the books which now and then I read. My favourite girl!! Another of my favorite childhood tales that I sat back and enjoyed while doing some cleaning. The reader had kind of a strange voice but I grew used to it after a few minutes, and she did a pretty good job with the different voices. It was wonderful to visit Villa Villekula with Pippi and Mr. Nilsson (her monkey!) while she had her adventures and imparted her strange wisdom. Short but sweet, this book brought a smile to my face and sometime in the not too distant future I may try to find more of the stories if they are available in audio. This was my second favorite book when I was a kid (Alice in Wonderland was #1). I'm not sure if kids read it much these days but I hope so. It's very odd and very funny. Well, you just have to love Sweden's most famous anarchist. She's outrageous, but makes a lot of sense at the same time. I'm not sure I actually read these books as a kid, but the TV (brilliant) series is in my genes. I love the making cookies on the kitchen floor and downing a whole cake at the "kafferep." Of course, viewing it from the adult angle, the most fun is when Pippi is out looking for "spunk," which isn't funny at all in Swedish, but makes the dialogue flippen hilarious in English!! http://boklista.livejournal.com/42838... Pippi Longstocking is a loveable swedish girl. Her mother died and her father is sailing the seven seas. She lives by her self in her own house with her own monkey and her own horse.
