Lost treasure for anyone wanting to read about pre-Flagler Florida. The title and the author’s penname of Silvia Sunshine probably diminish the work in the eyes of some but I know you will not find a book that pictures Florida better in that era and her writings on prior history matches or surpasses many modern writers. Readers of a particular subject often get repetitious info but in this book the familiar material has a different style and you will find things not found anywhere else unless material is borrowed from her work. The author travels by on various craft (steamboats, stagecoach, and trains) throughout the territory of Florida describing people, their cultures, and their environment. Amusing anecdotes and her anthropological type look on her on era make this an interesting read. Her travels start in Georgia and they take her to Cuba but Florida is the centerpiece. I think many romance novelists could find inspiration in this book because the author has a romance with Florida.
