This is a fun and exciting book to read because it presents stories that are far fetched and bizarre. Children will love this story because it gives them a chance to sit back and think about their own stories and what they might want to write about. The illustrations also tell a story all by themselves. This helps the children realize how important pictures can be and what they are used for. Something else that stands out in this book is that the text is full of rich vocabulary for children. There are plenty adjectives that give bright and fluffy descriptive words children will love to learn and read. Take your child on a fun and joyous read by exposing them to "Not So True Stories And Unreasonable Rhymes." no reviews | add a review
Imaginative poems and intricate cut-paper illustrations combine to make the ordinary--a train ride--extraordinary and the extraordinary--a galactic car race--out of this world. Brimming with detail, the lively illustrations reveal something new with each visit. And the characters in the poems will linger long after the book is closed. Not So True Stories is a stunning debut from newcomer Carin Berger. No library descriptions found.

One hundred ants
In lime green pants
Are feeling so très, très
Beetle bugs
with scarlet gloves
Shimmy, bop and sway
Swooping bats
in silk top hats
And nimble spider acrobats
All swing to Ella, Duke and Fats
At Josie's Cabaret
As a great fan of Ms. Berger's work, I am glad to have finally tracked down a copy of Not So True Stories & Unreasonable Rhymes, which is a remarkably skillful debut. The poems are fun to read, and while I wouldn't describe them as especially memorable, when paired with the striking visuals here they make for an entertaining read. The artwork is, as expected, a true delight, and Berger makes wonderful use of cut paper to create colorful, engrossing, idiosyncratic scenes. Recommended to fellow fans of the artist, as well as to anyone looking for poetic picture-books. ( )
