Linz has written a short, sweet tale about a Sergeant Major's daughter who has sworn off military men and a Marine Sergeant battling survivor's guilt. Prudence Martin helps Sergeant Joe Wilder cope the guilt of surviving a recent helicopter accident as well as surfacing memories of a long buried childhood accident. With her help, he comes to accept that some times an accident is just an accident, and that accidents exist outside the 'No excuses. No exception.' rule within the Marines. I only wish the story had been a bit more fleshed out and longer. ( )
