rabck box from bookstogive 11/09; condensed to fit in with the road trip time line, but very funny. Widowed mom Jess is dragging her two kids, one parakeet and two hermit crabs along in a 20 year old station wagon east, to find work. Henry is snookered into going along to share expenses by his grandfather, GH. With no children experience, and finding out Jess believes he's a bum between jobs - not a rich executive who never takes time off - he goes along for the ride, along with his broken arm which prohibits him from driving. But the road trip, complete with no AC, bickering kids, and roadstops at every historical place imaginable, really changes his mind about taking on this family permanently. ( )
