In this second volume of One Thousand and One Nights the Sultan Shahryar and his loyal body guard, Maseru, are captured by a rebel group. The revolutionaries are led by a young man named Ali, who was in love with one of the girls used and executed by the Sultan. Sehara finds himself on the rebels' side, they rescued his sister and celebrate his bravery in sneaking into the Sultan's harem.

The positions of power are thus reversed, yet Sehara continues to tell the Sultan stories. This time the story is about "Cho-Yong," a simple-minded slave boy who winds up known as the "Son of the Sea God" at the King of Shi-La's court and marries the most beautiful woman, Ka-Ya. But when the prince, who loves Ka-Ya and realizes Cho-Yong is not actually the son of a god, storms into the picture, it threatens the only happiness the poor boy has ever known.

At the end, the Sultan is so angry he says he would rather be tortured by the rebels! Doesn't Sehara know any stories with happy endings?
In his author's notes, JinSeok explains that he prefers the sadder, original ending to stories like "The Little Mermaid"- "Sometimes the sad ending is more beautiful." ( )

Somewhat interesting, but not overly so. Still keeps the air of mystery on romantic relationships, though more past on the young king is revealed. ( )
