In the third volume of SeungHee and JinSeok's One Thousand and One Nights the Sultan Shahryar escapes from the rebels and enlists his friend Jafar (whom he's had imprisoned) to determine who among the nobles is out to betray him. Being a mad tyrant he's not very popular . . . Sehara and his sister find themselves back at the Sultan's court, and his sister can't understand why Sehara would choose the bloodthiristy tyrant over their friends in the rebellion.

This time, Sehara tells the story of Cleopatra, her marriage to her younger brother, Ptolemy and her relationship with Caesar. The soft, beautiful colour pages at the beginning of this volume seem to glow and make me wish the entire thing could be in colour. I know that's just not an option for manga/manwa artists.

After three volumes, this series hasn't really grown on me. The overarching plot is necessarily slow-moving and the yaoi/boy's love elements far more downplayed than I was expecting. While I don't mind the short-stories format, so far none of these retellings have blown me away. Not sure if I will continue with this series. ( )
