I've become addicted to Barbara Nadel's Instanbul novels. They are so well-written and Inspector Ikmen is such a charming character. ( )

This is another wonderful Inspector Ikmen murder mystery set in contemporary Turkey. Ikmen investigates the shooting murder of a young carpet dealer and comes up against the expatriate diplomatic community. His colleague, Suleyman, continues the hunt for the mysterious "peeper" killer, who first appeared in an earlier book. The interesting characters (everyone has a story) combined with the Istanbul location make this an enjoyable read. ( )

Not my favorite Nadel. Although rich in atmospheric detail and the lovable Çetin Ikmen, the expatriate characters lacked dimension and the representation of carpet dealers was formulaic. The side-by-side plots were a bit forced. ( )

Fascinating as always. The only thing that have made me interested in visiting Turkey, a country I otherwise would avoid. ( )
