2877 There Was Once a Time, by Anne-Marie Rasmussen (read 15 Jun 1996) This book, published in 1975, is by a woman born on an island not far from Oslo, Norway, near the beginning of World War II who went to the USA when she was 18. She got a job as a maid in Nelson Rockefeller's home and eventually married his son Steven. They had three children and were divorced about 1970. She had a two-year second marriage. I could not develop much sympathy for the author, who was spoiled, and I sympathized with Steven, who spent a lot of time studying and as of 1975 was not remarried and was a professor in a small New England college. This is a sad book, artlessly written (no doubt ghosted by Betty W. Sapoch [whose 'assistance' is acknowledged]) and I found it well worth reading, though it is now a forgotten book. ( )
